My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

I'm from a town where not a whole lot goes on. If the sirens are going off, it's most likely for the senior citizens, no real big emergencies. To quote the movie School of Rock: "Don't take much to memorize our lives." A very calm, conservative, and bland community. I long to get out of the country and explore things that are different to the everyday norms that I have grown to love and hate. I'm always looking behind buildings and around places that no one bothers to go anymore because I think it's extremely interesting that people can drive by a beautiful abandoned or forgotten place and not think anything of it. On the way to a mall, I always drive by "Skip's Motorcycles and Automotive" always longing to know it's story. I spent an hour or two one summer day on a tour given to me by Jim, one of the workers there, as he told me how much fun he had tearing down old bikes and making fun of how West Coast Choppers on TV made it look so glamourous. I could tell that he did not have a care in the world and he loved what he did there, as he explained that "this isn't really a job for me." Needless to say, Jim wouldn't really have fit in with the rest of my community and that's why I loved meeting him.
I've never been out of the country, much less photograph a little known place like the Kingdom of Bhutan. I can't wait to get out the country and explore what other cultures are like.
