My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Hello,

My name is Pedro and I’m from Peru. I consider myself an autodidact and one of the reasons I want to win the scholarship is because this is an opportunity to have a mentor, which I haven't had yet.

I'm 31 years old. I don't live of photography and I'm not a professional yet. But I'm ready to be one and to be the best.

I'm willing to learn and enjoy the experience. I know this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am ready to travel. And recently, I think I deserve this because when I saw the server crashed, I panicked.

I took this pictures a few months ago at a very known hospital in my country for treating children with disabilities of families with little means of support. I was looking for a theme for a personal project and I ended up there.

As I was taking pictures and knowing the patients, one day I met Maria and her daughter Carmencita. She was very kind and I she started to tell me about her situation. She was from other city and had to come to Lima, leaving her husband and her 2 years old son, to take Carmencita to the hospital because an illness in her foot didn't let her walk. I met Maria and Carmencita two days before the surgery. I spend many time with them, even in the surgery, but this pictures show the time Carmencita and her mother spent in a shelter for two months, while continuing their checks.

Now they are in their hometown, but returning soon to Carmencita therapy.
