My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Traveling is learning, understanding and experiencing.

Part of the process for me is witnessing people's grief and capture it photographically in a respectful yet powerful way.

I hope many around the world can share my experience and grasp the pain of the Indonesian people I photographed.

After the earthquake struck Padang, on the Indonesian Island of Sumatra, I traveled there to see how people were coping with the grief and reconstruction phase.

I found the unexpected: hope where only rubble was visible and love where families were torn apart.

This is the power of photography and traveling.
