The Best Places To Visit In Switzerland This Winter

SWITZERLAND | Friday, 12 January 2018 | Views [91]

Wondering where you can travel to over the christmas break? Thinking of travelling to Switzerland over the winter holidays? Say no more, we’ve got you covered. It can be hard finding the major sites of interest in a country especially if all the travelling companies clog up all your web searches with random semi-related business deals. So here’s a list of five of the major attractions in Switzerland that are well suited just for you if you’re thinking of either taking a winter holiday abroad or if you’re just wanting to visit Switzerland this year:

Acqua Sports

Pedalos are available for hire in places like Zurich, and whilst it may look like an oversized child’s toy it is a sport that will burn off a lot of calories. These Pedalos are situated on Lake Zurich and can be hired from many different companies. And if you’re not into pedalos then there are always some other equally exciting nautical sports on offer such as rowing boats, speed boats and yawls that are available.

The Contra Dam

Fans of James Bond have been religious flocking to this site on a fan based pilgrimage to recreate the jump scene from the beginning of the 007 movie GoldenEye. As for £125 each you (and your friends) can leap off this 720 foot tall dam on a bungee jumping mission that would appeal to most adrenaline junkies. So if you fancy yourself a bit of espionage or if you’re out looking for adventure, this is the ideal activity for you in Switzerland.

What’s Trending on Instagram in Switzerland?

A little North of the Alps is a town called Bern which is currently the number 1 trending location on Instagram with over a million hashtags documented online in a recent study. Bern boasts two idyllic markets for the festive period in Münsterplatz and Waisenhausplatz. And the town itself has some ideal scenery to gawp at, so no wonder it’s trending on instagram.

Thun-Bern Float Trips

Between Thun and Bern there are many chances available to hire a float and travel down the stretch between Thun and Bern along the river Aare. The water current is also pretty strong in the river Aare so it’s best to come prepare, so make sure you’re wearing a life jacket and don’t attempt to hire a float if you can’t swim. There are also many picnic places around, that is if you can stop your float in time to get to them!

Free Bike Hiring

For a small deposit you can hire a bike, an e-bike or even a child’s bike for free so long as you don’t damage, or lose the bike you are given. Thus if you do damage or lose the bike you hired out, you probably won’t get your deposit of CHF 20 back. These free bikes are available all year round for you to use and provide a nice way to further explore the city of Zurich on two wheels.

So which of these five activities of interest did you find most appealing in this list? Is there any other activities of interest that we we should include to this list? Comment your answers down below and please feel free to share this article if you enjoyed it.
