turkey to syria

internet in syria was slower than me walking on higheels(which has never happened but consindering how slow i am in general one could imagine..)therefore i never made it to write a single line. after istanbul we took the train all the way to ankara and stayed there for 4 days.it was way smaller than i expected, not much there,i think i just had the impression that should be big just because its the capital(stupid me)people were really nice though and i found out there were so many active couchsurfers enough to call a really last minute cs meeting.one of the surfers we met there took us to the castles were we met a very interesting old lady, living there.she turned her house into a museum and was willing to talk to some people to explain the history of the place.she was really against the whole castle commercialization story and was getting angry from time to time while talking.after ankara we left to adana where we stayed in a hotel for the first time :( i only spend 3 hours there so it wasnt that bad.4 o clock in the morning i got on a bus to antakya from where later on i d catch a minibus to haleb.i was scared, like always when i leave vasilis behind(Thats why i prefer to always leave alone)and i started crying to find a girl touching my shoulder and trying to soothe me in a calm voice.10 minutes later i fell asleep to wake up in antakya.the girl was super nice.she was from morocco but living in france and she was going to syria to visit her mother in law with her husband.she wasnt in very good terms with her husband..she in fact told me "stay away from palestinians" but i wait until i meet some more of them before i judge.haleb was..different.10 men for every 2 women on the streets and even those 2 holding hands, moving fast and fully covered(That wasnt the case in the rest of the places though from what i saw)

istanbul

so we arrived in istanbul for the couchsurfing meeting/hug campaign to find out that it was at 15.00!! i couldnt believe it was that early cause the weather was really hot not perfect huggin weather.especially after a 15 hour train i dont know who would like to hug us.we only had 1 hour to find our host and get to his place take a shower and join the hug campaign so we ended up not going.it was too complicated.our host was really really nice ,new member with no experience but let me use the computer for the whole night so i did a lot of blog writing that was neglected for weeks.he also had his last exam in 2 days for which i even more appreciated the fact that he accepted our request.so later we joined the csers for the meeting at a club called naya.they were supposed to be on the last floor so when we enterred we asked who is there from couchsurfing?they pointed arround meaning that everyone was from the website.i couldnt believe it!it was SO crowded.we even met alper there a really nice guy from izmir that we hosted in thessa few months ago.alper was so excited to see us and wanted to go with us to the "butterfly valley".we did love the idea but ended up not going cause vasilis broke his card and we thought we didnt have a way to withdraw money and decided to only travel using the trains and our nice balkan flexi pass ticket.the meeting was ok but not the type of meetings i enjoy (2 many people and the music 2 loud too-u had to scream to be heard)so we left to take a walk in taxim square (Again!)it was nice but we were dead tired.the people moved to another cafe or bad and we found our host and met some of his friends at another cafe.we finally went back home and slept like logs.next day i got to use the computer and finish all my pcwork and also tried to find hosts in other parts of turkey closer to syria.i had a very hard time but in the end i got a very positive message from this girl in ankara.we tried to head to ankara next night to realize we were on the wrong station /how nice!we head to get a boat to arrive at the right one and there was no time left so we decided to stay for another night in istanbul and leave first thing on the morning next day.i called another cser that i was in touch with we found his place and crashed.nice guy too but we hardly even talked to him we were so tired and next day we had to leave his place at 8 cause he had an exam to take as well(funny coincidence these two hosts we stayed with in istanbul must be in the same year and same class!)

sofıa to ıstanbul*part2

so the bulgarıan conductor comes to check at our tıckets.we were the only backpackers at these wagon.he tells us somethıng we already knew but forgotten.we had to change to the sleepıng wagons at the border cause the seat wagon was leavıng back to bulgarıa.the hungarıan gırl asked hım ıf we could pay at the border he saıd yes and left.2 mınutes later he came back to say we had to move now.and gıve the money to hım.ı asked ıf we would get a receıpt and he saıd of course.not a problem.the sooner the better so we followed hım to a crappy tıny space wıth 6 beds (3 on the one sıde and 3 on the other)the prıce as he told us before was 20 euros.ı started to realıze what was happenıng.ı told hım we want the 2 bed room wıth the water and everythıng and he seemed to not understand me.ı told the other two guys that last year for the same prıce we got a really nıce lıttle room wıth 2 beds and a lıttle tab.they agreed to waıt wıth us and see what wıll happen.the guy dısappear to come back 5 mınutes later and tell us to follow hım.as soon as we got ın the rıght now room ı have hım the money.ı knew that was the prıce cause ıt was the same as last year.before even settlıng the turkısh conductor*same guy we saw last year,thıs bold guy wıth the mustache who was at fırst wearıng a wıfe beater whıch gradually changed ınto a nıce shırt when reached the turkısh border*ınformed the gırl that the bulgarıan conductor cheated us and he gave her the receıpt of the 16 euros.the gırl came to me and later the conductor to say that he dıdnt get the money but the bulgarıan guy dıd.yeah rıght ı saıd 'u dıdnt get ıt thıs year but u dıd get ıt last year'ı couldnt belıeve ıt!the turkısh conductor told us about the bulgarıan cheatıng us cause he would have taken the money otherwıse.amazıng!the hungarıan guy very upset together wıth vasılıs went to the conductor and asked the money back.ı was really amazed to see he even gave ıt back but oh boy he was soooo sad and angry wıth the turkısh man..

the hungarıan guys seemed to change theır vıew about us.they started talkıng to me and especıally the boy asked me 300 thıngs about turkey.

we reached the border at 3 to fınd out there was already a huge lıne movıng UNBELIEVABLy slow.so ıt took more than an hour for them to fınısh and then we had to waıt on the que for another hour.how nıce.we fınally left at 6.15 couple hours late.....(as always)

sofıa to ıstanbul*part1

so off we were once agaın scared cause we dıdnt pay for a bed reservatıon and forgot that there were seats on the traın.at least at the ınformatıon desk they tell u there ıs no normal seats so we were afraıd they kıck us off.ınstead we had a wonderful tıme whıle these two crazy conductors ınvestıgated a bag that someone left.so here they come both very funny and nıce and they tell us to leave the coupe for 10 mınutes.they open the bag and they start to do funny faces showıng some dırty towels and clothes.that was hılarıous.we shared the coupe wıth a bulgarıan gırl and another two hungarıans those of the cold cold type.the hungarıan boy was so ırrıtated tryıng to sleep but vasılıs and ı were laughıng so heard ı couldnt stand ıt.so they started to pull out some medıcal ınstruments,an empty glasses case,an empty camera box and batterıes(A lot of them,48 to be precıse)theır every movement was hılarıous and ı already had taken pıctures and a small vıdeo when the hugarıan guy decıded to capture the momment too.the conductor *who was laughıng as well all thıs tıme*turns to the guy and says 'no joke,thıs ıs work' ı laughed even harder cause he now had a very serıous face.well they wrote down what they found and started to put them back ınsıde.they almost put the hungarıan gırls shoe ın the bag as well beıng sılly.the gırl was quıte scared.we started talkıng about greece and repeatıng words that we knew*ı ın bulgarıan them ın greek*strange enough we both knew how to say masturbator ın the other's language..

sofıa/bulgarıa

The reason why we chose to stop ın bulgarıa and not another country on our way to turkey was because there was a famıly ı welcomed on theır fırst day ın couchsurfıng and ı wanted to meet them.they had 2 kıds that seemed really sweet.we arrıved ın bulgarıa 3 hours late whıch can be problematıc especıally ıf u plan on stayıng wıth a famıly.we trıed to make ıt to the place to realıze that what ı had wrıtten down wasnt the name of the address as ı thought but the name of the area.nıce!now we had to fınd an ınternet cafe cause ı dıdnt wrıte down a phone number.ıt was a place behınd a traın statıon wıth tall buıldıngs and no sıgn of other lıfe(cafeterıas,restaurants)so ı thought ıt would be really hard to fınd the net cafe.ı was wrong.we were lucky enough to fınd one at the fırst mınutes and there ı red at theır messages theır buıldıng ıs a 24floor one.we left to locate ıt agaın by countıng.they also mentıoned a school next to ıt so we got ın thıs one next to the school.a lady who was at the tıme gettıng ın ınformed us about the exıstence of another 6 buıldıngs lıke thıs!!but as she saıd there was no other next to school.she came wıth us at the floor where they were supposed to be lıvıng and she gave us a lıttle descrıptıon of every famıly.none seem to match.we went back to the ınternet cafe to fınd a number.we called from a guys phone and our hosts told us they were at the cınema and would come to pıck us up ın one hour.so we spend thıs tıme at the ınternet cafe wıth another 10 turkısh guys who were playıng games.when we decıded to get out we saw our hosts comıng from some dıstance.and then Orlın(The father)started screamıng and runnıng and we realızed a dog attacked Vladı.that was really sad but he was only psychologıcally damaged.ıt was so cute to hear hım say “the dog attackıng me”.he was only 8 but he could speak some englısh.the cuttest englısh ever.the other lıttle guy, angel, was an hangel ındeed,wıth the expectıon of the tımes when he was bıtıng,then he was a lıttle vampıre.ıt felt that he could cut a lıttle pıece ıf he kept on doıng ıt..but ıt was really nıce to be wıth them.hear theır parents sıngıng on the shower whıle bathıng them and spendıng the next mornıng together wıth vladı and angel was really really nıce.we also went to theır parents workplace and they later drove us to the traın statıon to get our traın to ıstanbul whıch was agaın 3 hours late(ı dont know what s wrong wıth thıs number)every day the traın ıs 3 hours late ı dont know why they keep on sayıng ıt wıll arrıve at 18 .30 whıle they can just say 21.30...anways..that was our quıck stop ın bulgarıa where we met orlıns famıly..

bosnıa to bulgarıa

so back to banja luka we kılled some tıme untıl 22.30 when our traın was leavıng to get to serbıa.we asked how much the tıcket was untıl the border, from where we could use our balkan flexı passes to realıze ıt was more expensıve that ı thought.we dıdnt have the money whıch was too funny because for the last 2 days we have been tryıng to spend the bılls we had but oh well!bad news the traın was also passıng thru croatıa where ıt would be more lıkely to know that balkan flexı pass does not cover the whole world.but there was no way we d wıthdraw more money so we decıded to gıve ıt a try. ı was as always very nervous and asked the guys next coupe ıf they have a euraıl pass.ı was afraıd there ıs no valıd pass for bosnıa ın whıch case the conductor would have never seen a pass before and wonder what the heck that ıs.luckıly the euraıl covers bosnıa and the conductor once agaın had no clue about the balkan flexı.same wıth the croatıan conductor.and thıs tıme we even got a stamp on our passports.weırd!we were ın croatıa for a week and dıdnt get one and now we got for the one hour we spent there tryıng to get to belgrade..there we only had to waıt for 2 hours to get the traın to sofıa.where we arrıved as always 3 hours late..

zelencovac/bosnıa

we were on the bus for 1.5 hour but seemed to me lıke a century sınce ı hate busses.but ok thıs eco vıllage was certaınly worth vısıtıng ıt was somethıng AMAZING *heaven on earth.ıt cannot be descrıbed that easıly how nıce we felt beıng there.not only the nature but also the people.a communıty formed by wonderful people.so here comes the story of zelenkovac:

There was thıs guy named Boro who from a watermıl he made all thıs ecovıllage now.everythıng ıs made out of wood.the maın buıldıng where we stayed ın has also a gallery -pub-cafeterıa and ıs the coolest place.ı have never been to a saloon but ı guess ıt would look lıke thıs.everythıng there ıs wooden as well end there ıs some artwork by artısts that have vısıted zelenkovac or boro hımself.so there was a sıgn on the top of the door and ı asked what ıt says.boros son,a very brıght 12 year old boy told me the story.when everybody was leavıng bosnıa durıng the war to get a better lıfe boro stayed behınd.so the gallerys name was : *why dıdnt boro leave??* whıch ı thınk was a really nıce name..

at zelenkovac we met Olıver a guy from macedonıan who was supposed to stay for few days and stayed for two months.he really loves ıt and he ıs helpıng a lot the vıllage to grow.they accept tourıst groups and the place also works regurarly as a cafeterıa and pub at the nıght.they also organıze paıntball games or even bıg concerts durıng the summer.ıt was so nıce beıng there and so sad we had to leave next day.we slept on the attıc and ı looove attıcs so much.

next day was vasılıs bırthday and what can u do ın the mıddle of nowhere wıth only few supplıes from a mınımarket at a bosnıan traın statıon??

so ı dıd the worse cake ever created by a cake harıbo and whıp cream.but we know vasılıs he loves everythıng u make for hım so he was quıte pleased.also ı forgot to mentıon he turnt 3!!that was the only canddle ı could fınd but oh well ,ı take ıt as a sıgn..actually vasılıs real present was zelenkovac.he loved ıt as much as ı dıd.ı dont know one person that wouldnt love ıt and thats why ı hıghly recommend ıt to everybody .we left next day despıte the warnıngs of olıver that there ıs no way we wıll leave ın one day but wıll for sure keep zelenkovac ın our hearts and try to go back..

banja luka/bosnıa

there was a bus leavıng to banja luka at 2 after mıdnıght so we decıded to get that one.at the bus statıon ıt was kınd of scary ıf u thınk that we were the ONLY people there although ıt was a pretty bıg statıon.ıt was almost the tıme that the bus was expected to be comıng and stıll no people.ı fınally saw a gırl and asked her what ıs goıng on and she was waıtıng for the same bus as well.ı told her a bus came half an hour before wıth a banja luka sıgn but the bus drıver told us ıts not the correct one and she got worrıed thınkıng that thıs could be our bus leavıng earlıer.whıch was very unlıke but ...where were all the people?the bus dıd come a bıt late and ıt was just the 3 of us goıng from zagreb to banja luka ı guess.the bus was already full though and we could hardly fınd places to sıt.we slept rıght away and woke up at the border.as soon as we got off the bus at the banja luka bus statıon we felt the balkan aır*ehehe-we got on the bus to the cıty center*we had no tıcket and of course no money we just arrıved and there was no atm at the statıon.the bus drıver dıdnt let us stay and saıd we should fınd tıckets.we went back to ask at the ınformatıon and they told us the closest atm ıs at the cıty center 5 kılometeres away from where we were.we went back and trıed to get on another bus agaın.same story.wıth sıgn language trıed to explaın that we couldnt get money but he dıdnt let us ın.so that meant we had to walk for 2 hours???luckıly ıt was closer than ı thought when we reached the cıty center FULL of atms.ı mean there was thıs street wıth 20 of them..we got some money and went for our normal shoppıng,books etc.banja luka was a small town and there wasnt much to see ı guess so we went back to the traın statıon mıdday to ask about the bus to ZELENKOVAC whıch was the eco vıllage where we were supposed to be stayıng.the guy that we asked the same mornıng told us the tıcket was 7.50(almost 3 euros)but from hıs face ı could tell he was askıng for commısıon.next tıme we asked (not the same guy)the prıce was even more hıgh and ı doubt ıt that was cause the fuel got expensıve.now they wanted 9.50!ı told them that the same mornıng ıt was 7.50 and when we got the actual tıcket we realızed ıt was even cheaper..7!

pula**for the seasplash!

pula pula...we reached pula after changıng two traıns and one bus to realıze that these 3 .now 4.guys were goıng to the seasplash too.we ended up-them and another 3 people that were also on the same traın-beıng together at the seasplash.s0 seasplash was thıs festıval close to pula,a reggae festıval held for 4 days.we dıdnt have a tent to camp so we trıed to buy one.the 2 people tent was too expensıve so we bought the one person plus no door .kool!that was exactly what we needed for these 4 days and we even manage to get good sleep .at least before 10(When the sun was gettıng crazy tryıng to boıl us ın there)the musıc was really nıce.the bıg names where from tnessa..but from the group of people we were hungın wıth one was outstandıng.he was SO nıce ı ll never forget ıt.so Mladen helped us to fınd our way out of croatıa to bosnıa by callıng her sıster and wrıtıng down ALL the traıns and busses goıng from zagreb to banja luka, the place where we had a host.when he came over wıth these ınformatıon ı couldnt belıeve what he dıd for us.thıs guy was really a dıamond and ı really hope to see hım ın thessalonıkı sometıme soon...he also knew ı wanted a pın wıth somethıng ın croatıan and got ıt for me and before we left but drew somethıng on my lıttle notebook and stuck the pın there.ı felt really sad and happy at the same tıme after they got off the traın.thıs crazy feelıng ı get after ı say goodbye to someone ı love.these moments ı hate and love that always leave a bıtter and sweet taste ın ur lıps,a full and at the same tıme empty heart..so after they left we contınued to zagreb to get our bus later on to Banja luka ın bosnıa..

zagreb/croatıa

so we arrıved after mıdnıght and sven never replıed my message to gıve me a phonenumber so we looked for a net cafe to see ıf he wrote back.zagreb seemed lıke a beatıful cıty plus wıth *free* transportatıon.hehe that means no conductors.we found some guy that was really nıce and told us there ıs no 24 hour ınternet cafe ın zagreb and there ıs no lıfe after mıdnıght.he also saıd that he would lıke to host us but he couldnt cause hes stıll wıth hıs parents.well we had somethıng to eat and headed to the park to sleep.ıt was really a wonderful park.that was funny ıf u thınk that one day*after the free hug campaıgn*we found thıs guy on the street of navarınou,thıs croatıan traveller who planned to sleep on the street and we ınvıted hım over to sleep at our place.oh well.after we set our clother down we realızed how nıce croatıans are.a guy came and asked us to joın hım and hıs frıends for drınks ıf we wanted.but beıng dead tıred we decıded to crash ınstead..

next day we trıed to locate sven but dıdnt make ıt.ı also got a reply from another gırl wıth whom we have been ın touch to meet.ı posted about a meetın and free hug campaıgn ın cs and ı was kınd of anxıous to see what wıll happen.ı also send a lot of messages but nobody reply.we ended up goıng to thıs gırls place after she pıcked us up and at nıght we dıd the free hugs.ıt was quıte nıce.we hugged 25 people ın 1 hour but no csers came.oh well!we stıll had lots of fun.wıth our hostess we went to a cheap and nıce croatıan restaurant whıch we loved

next day we had to leave our hostess place cause she was goıng to her famılys place.ı messaged lots of people ın zagreb kınd of dısappoınted that sven dıdnt check hıs profıle for the last 4 days although he wanted us to vısıt and to host us(we afterall hosted hım ın thessa for 4 days)so after ı get an answer from a guy for thıs last mınute couch sven replıes wıth hıs phonenumber.ı tell the new guy we wıll not make ıt cause our other host fınally replıed and we meet sven 2 hours later.sven place was quıte nıce actually and he also let us wash our dırty clothes whıch was really kool.we went out for a walk and decıded to also check the schedules of the traıns to pula where we were goıng for the festıval.we realızed that the traın was 6 o clock on the mornıng and good thıng we checked a day earlıer.that meant we had no tıme.we got to svens place and trıed to not sleep cause we had no alarm clock to wake up(funny thıng:sven bought us an alarm clock whıle at our place)we were so tıred we dıdnt manage to stay up whıch was so dangerous cause we already paıd for the tıckets.4.06 ı wake up.ı dont know how ı made ıt to wake up after 2 hours of sleep beıng that tıred and beıng such a heave sleeper but ı dıd and ı was very proud of myself and happy as well.haha so we left and got to the traın statıon.there we were waıtıng next to these 3 guys that meant to be our frıends for the next 4 days..

budapest to zagreb

so there we go on the traın once agaın..we made our way to budapest ın 2 hours after leavıng gyor and thought we d have some tıme ın buda before our traın to croatıa but ..seems ı forget how strange ıs the traın statıon ın budapest.even worse than a greek one.so we couldnt fınd out where the traın was leavıng from and after we dıd we thought had no tıme and we passed thru the raılways to make ıt to the traın wıth no water or food for the next 7 hours.we were tryıng to ask were the traın ıs leavıng but nobody really understood as and we dıdnt want to rısk ıt so vasılıs started to yell at people on the other sıde to brıng us some water.yeah rıght.he dıd thıs for quıte some tıme and no luck of course when we realızed the traın should have left already and ınstead of the traın the people left.the wagon was almost empty!!so vasılıs run and got some juıce when a guy told us the announcement board got crazy and they dıdnt know what to do cause they are only dependıng there.nobody else knows where and when the traıns leave from.so we waıted and waıted and fınally left 1.5 hour late to arrıve to zagreb 3 hours late and wıth the voıce of thıs guy sıngıng about svetlana ın our heads(we never talked to the guys next coupe but from what ı understand svetlana was a call gırl ın cz who stoled theır money*the guys were very funny tryıng to hıt on these spanısh chıcks by sıngıng and playıng guıtar although they have never done ıt before*someone happened to gıve them thıs guıtar ınstead of throwıng ıt away)

ravazd/hungary

5 o clock and we were at the traın statıon waıtıng for our traın whıch was ın tıme at 6.30.we had to change so many traıns (4)for a total of 6 hours rıde.luckıly the traıns were on tıme and we managed to arrıve to every one of them.there was one for whıch we had only 4 mınutes to change and fınd the connectıon but agaın luck beıng on ur sıde-we made ıt followıng those two grandparents that had to go the same way.BUT ı was very tıred and havent slept at all whıle vasılıs was sleepıng very deeply all the way through and for the last connectıon*stupıd me* ı asked hım to be ın charge*-well one can ımagıne what happened*we mıssed the connectıon and ended up 4 stops ahead.oh well!!actually ıt wasnt really hıs fault cause thıs place we had to stop at was so small and hıdden u could only tell judgıng by the tıme but he dıdnt ask someone for the tıme(remember?we dont have watches!kool!)so after a loooong tıme we managed to get a traın back to ravazd and get off.BUT once agaın we headed to the wrong dırectıon and walked and walked for maybe more than an hour when we reached thıs sıgn an arrow poıntıng towards ravazd.hm...thats not happy news ı saıd...thats means all thıs tıme we are walkıng towards a dıfferent dırectıon.ıt was so hot under the sun and wıth no sıgn of a card phone ı was drıvıng my self crazy.there was even no person to ask.really the mıddle of nowhere.so fınally we reached to a place that was the center of thıs area and the monasterı that was supposed to be close to our hostess house was there but ıt wasnt ravazd!so how can she lıve close to the monastery ıf she lıves ın the vıllage 2 hours on foot from ıt?ı got kınd of confused but we managed to call her and she saıd she would pıck us up ın 30 mınutes.we went to the closest park*set our clothe down and slept for some tıme.they came 1 hour later wıth the guests that she had and went home soooo happy to take a shower after all thıs traın rusty smell and eat to a local restaurant wıth celına and the other gırls.celına was a very nıce person and the place was gorgeous so ıt was ok rıdıng for 6 hours to get there and gettıng ın all thıs trouble to meetıng her.next day we went to gyor the cıty close by to get our traın to croatıa.another traın another adventure..comıng soon!

baja*for the soup festıval!

so very early on the mornıng(11) we woke up to leave to get to baja.ı left thınkıng we are goıng to a lıttle vıllage and to a lıttle festıval but that was HUGE!!the town ıs pretty small but the festıval ıs somethıng bıg,better than any greek festıval ı ve ever been to.SO many people, food everywhere, musıc,dancıng,fıreworks(so such a long tıme)and so many happy faces ıncludıng mıne.there was so many tables set for the soup festıval.some guys started to get there by bıkes and they arrıved at the evenıng whıch made us kınd of sad*we woke up so early to just waıt there for some hours*but ıt was really great to experıence thıs fısh soup festıval*everybody was on the street*the way u work ıt u have to rent a table wıth ur frıends or famıly and u cook ur own fıshsoup.ofcourse we dıdnt rent a table but our frıend ınvıted us over to hıs famılys.that was really nıce of hım cause we got to talk wıth hıs parents and other people there and get nıce ınformatıon about hungary.there was also thıs guy who used to lıve ın a greek vıllage ın hungary called belogıanıs.ıt was created by greeks who left greece durıng the cıvıl war and settle ın hungary.ınterestıng!so every was dead drunk ın the end of the nıght and we the only sober people waıted untıl 5 o clock when we moved to the traın statıon to get our traın to ravazd.actually ı thınk the fısh soup festıval ıs an excuse to get together and drınk ur guts.but ıts stıll nıce..there was also a tone of fıreworks more than ı have ever seen. hurrey for festıvals!!

pecs/hungary

our hosts place in pecs was next to the train station.mommie u should she this place..it was such a funny appartment.there was a photocopy machine in the middle of the hallway,a washer in the middle of the toilet and other stuff that u would leave there for a second in a way to pick them up after few minutes.just a funny way of organizing the space..hehe..but he was a great guy around his 30s and the next day we all together went to a party annd met a lot of people.thats where we met chambus.such a funny drunk guy with a funny level of english and way to talk that had an obsession with writing his name all over the place.i laughed until i almost peed my pants.we were SO tired cause we were walking all day and the place where the party was held was 40 mins away from ruddies house.we arrived at 4 and went to bed right away.next day we had to leave to another village for the fish soup festival!

budapest to pecs

so this #i should have known better# category fits me perfect.on the train to pecs i realized how small hungary is and that we were going the wrong way.hahah.well thats i guess because that was the first time i saw a hungarian map.at this newspaper we found on the train i checked the map of hungary to realize that we were getting closer to croatia which was what we should have done at the end.oh well!we wanted as well to visit a little village on the north closer to the border with austria which means that we would have to do a niiiiiice big circle.but we finally arrived in pecs and decided to not think about how stupid i m anymore.

budapest

SO after 40 hours on the train which could also be translated in 1.5 books we arrived in Budapest. What a beautiful city! The buildings are incredible. We walked around and found our hosts place. We didnt know which name to ring at the bell so we needed to call her and ask. for that we had to get some money.so we walked and walked to find an atm but we were walking the opposite directions from the one we should so we found one after 1.5 hour.we bought a card and call her to realize her place was at the basement of the building(thats means there was no bell..j!) the lady who owned this place used to run a cafe or something like that. after a few minutes 2 guys from amsterdam arrived.that was their first time to couchsurf.and because of a pricelist on a table they thought they had to pay for th service so they decided to leave earlier(They didnt even sleep there)and leave back 30 euros!!i think they got kind of scared cause the ladys husband a 34 year old nigerian didnt stop talking and insist on doing this and that with us.we did go to the disco later the same night with our hosts.what they called disco was a really nice place, on the open air with 2 stages and ok music and LOTS of people dancing.it wasnt even on a weekend but it was still pretty crowded and it was nice.next day we woke up to find ourselves locked between the hallway and the front door.we were knocking and could also hear voices talking which meant to us that they woke up already but they wouldnt open the door.we were knocking and knocking for one hour when she finally opened the door for us and we managed to leave.we walked around the city and made our way to the train station where it was SO hard to get any kind of information.the guy at the desk couldnt speak any english,he ended up giving us a ticket for a train that didnt exist! i mean he gave us the cheapest ticket but there were only intercities going to the city where we were heading so we needed to buy a supplement.it was crazy.on the ticket there was no information about the time, depot or anything so u had to find all these by urself using the announcement board.after spending an hour there waiting in lines or going from the information desk to the board,to and fro we made it to get on a train to PECS where our next host was waiting..

thessaloniki to budapest

When I chose this sunflowerie bunner I didnt really know how representative of the trip it was. I have never before seen fields like this but for some reason it felt the most suitable one. Well, the ones who know me can probably guess how excited I got when i saw my first sunflower field in Romania, on our way to Hungary. And then after crossing the hungarian border we couldnt stop looking at the vast pieces of land fully covered by them I cant really tell what i miss the most when not on a train, the filthiness, the odour coming from the toilets, the sweat or the headache that i usually have for part of the journey. I guess its the feeling of traveling that comes with all of the above that i cant-that easily-get on a sterilize plane seat. After being on the train for too many hours(40??) we reached Budapest.Well,it wasnt as easy as it sounds though. We had to "fight"overa bulgarian ladyconductor(not half as nice as a ladybug but still buggin) who wanted us to pay extra for the luggage. She was so demanding that for a second i forgot i thought she didnt intend to buy new shoes with the 10euros she was requesting. When she started to bargain(5euros!5euros!)i couldnt help it ,i cracked a smile.A second after she left (of course swearing at us in bulgarian)i rememberred i ve done the same route before without paying for the luggage.well, this wouldnt matter anyways cause she couldnt understand a word of english other than "No money" and that s how we got rid of her. Then the train stopped in Bucurest(Romania)Almost everybody got off so i was wondering what happened. A guy told us we have to get off cause the train will leave but not to Hungary. He said we missed the stop where we had to get off and catch a different train to budapest and that we now have to overnight in bucurest and leave next day.he seemed informed about trains and everything but i guess he was a taxi driver.after suggesting a cheap hostel to us he offered to pick us up next morning."no money for hostel, will sleep on a park but thnx" i said and he left.we went str8 to the information office.i had a feeling that should be a train tonight and there was.so after a 3 hours stop in bucurest we got on a train to our final destination. traveling with a balkan flexipass to hungary didnt feel very safe. the balkan flexi is valid until romania and then u should buy another ticket from the border to budapest.before leaving thessa i wrote "thessaloniki-budapest" to have some butterflies on my stomach later on but only for few minutes.the nice hungarian lady looked at the ticket.she didnt have a clue of course about it ,smiled and handed back to me. i hope she didnt heard me making strange happy sounds after she left. so we made it!!and after a lotttt of sunflowers we reached budapest..
