Cityscapes: Bars of London’s skyline

UNITED KINGDOM | Thursday, 29 November 2018 | Views [36]

London, being one of the most technologically advanced cities in the world, is home to some of the most modernist architecture you’re likely to spot. But no more is this present in a city than at night. Light pollution, whilst dimming the natural starry nights, takes its own shape in an urban canvas which only becomes visible in the shade of night. It’s not common practise to wander the streets of London, scaling rooftops to see the splendor of the cityscape. However, there are a few bars that tourists and locals flock to which enable you to relax, drink and socialise over the bright lights of the city. Not only are these bars perfect for seeing the city, but have been specifically chosen for their reasonably priced drinks, which in any city can be hard to find unless you’ve lived there for years. Whether you’re visiting London, a long-time resident, or are looking for a luscious venue for your next romantic encounter, the following bars are sure to give you the perfect setting for all your wants and needs.

Vivo, Angel

North of the river, Vivo bar in Angel has prices of wine and beer starting from under five pounds, which is a god-send in London. Vivo has been said to have ‘North London’s coolest rooftop terrace’. It’s wooden panels are spread around a relaxing sit down area which offers bar and food service. This classy bar overlooks Islington throughout the whole day, meaning that not only can you pop in for a drink in an evening, but you can visit in the morning to enjoy breakfast and brunch. Weather permitting, this might be the best way you spend a morning in the city.

Skylight, Wapping

Closer to the river and the heart of the city, Skylight bar is a truly imaginative bar which transforms with the seasons. During winter, Skylight becomes europe’s only rooftop bar with an ice rink where its patrons are able to drink in a nice social setting whilst skating in the sky. Over the edge of the ice rink, the bright blue neon lights of the streets are over cast by hanging golden spheres resembling star-like christmas baubles. With prices of wine and pints starting at five pounds, this is another perfect place to drink and view the city.

Boisdale, Canary Wharf

In the upmarket area of Canary Wharf it can be nearly impossible to find a venue that hosts legendary musical nights, cigar libraries, skyline views AND offers a pint for £4.50! But Boisdale bar offers all this and more. An award winning whiskey and cigar bar, this incredibly classy venue will not ask you to take out a mortgage before ordering a round and provides, not only a lovely view of the streets below, but a hot-spot for sophistication and bespoke conversation.
