The Best Spots To See A Future Solar Eclipse

ARGENTINA | Monday, 15 January 2018 | Views [294]

People simply love watching a solar eclipse. A colossal 7 million people are estimated to have watched this year’s cosmic event on August 21st. People travelled in their masses from all the world to watch the event starting in Oregon and ending in South Carolina.

Luckily for eclipse chasers, we always know the exact time of the next astronomical event due to the amazingly accurate clockwork of our solar system.

Choosing where to watch future total eclipses depends on many factors such as cost of travel and opportunities to find other interesting and rewarding aspects to the trip. With this in mind let's take a look at where and when the next eclipses will take place…

1. 02 July 2019, South Pacific, Chile, Argentina 19:24:07 04m 33s

July is the coldest time to visit the Southern Hemisphere. The line of totality begins in the South Pacific and ends on the coast of Chile. Most of the track will pass over the ocean ending late in the day over Chile. The most reliable place during this time to view the eclipse will be from La Serena in Chile. This will be a very expensive trip and finding accommodation will prove almost as tricky as finding a suitable viewing point.

2. 14 Dec 2020, South Pacific, Chile, Argentina 16:14:39 02m 10s

A very similar track to 2019’s eclipse but much warmer and more pleasant. An amazing adventure through Patagonia could be tied in with seeing the solar event of the year. The only set back here would be cost as flights rise during summer months, however if you delay your return ticket to January you will see cheaper fares.

3. 04 Dec 2021, Antarctica, 07:34:38 01m 54s

The easiest way to experience this eclipse will be to by buy a ticket for an expedition vessel as this destination is going to be hard to reach. If you don't like to view your eclipse from a boat then the remote Shetland Island will be your best vantage point. If you are adventurous enough to embark on such a trip you might also consider South America where it will be beautiful early summer.

4. 08 April 2024, Mexico, Central U.S, East Canada 18:18:29 04m 28s

A school holiday trip of a lifetime could be in order during 2024 as a fine weathered U.S, Mexico and Canada host the total eclipse. Your adventure could possibly take in cities such as Dallas, Montreal and Niagara Falls as you follow the stripe of darkness.

5. 12 Aug 2026 Arctic, Greenland, Iceland, Spain 17:47:05 02m 18s

The most ideal eclipse for UK holiday makers. This summer eclipse appears in the Arctic, Greenland, Iceland before reaching northern Spain. Wonderful cities including Bilbao, Valencia and Palma are crossed by the line of totality, and these spots are perfect for an easy, relaxing holiday.
