My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I should be chosen for the travel scholarship to Oman because I am a passionate, enthusiastic photographer and love exploring different cultures.

The selected photos were taken in February 2012 on a trip to my birthplace, Burma. It was an amazing trip.

Image 1 – People gather to watch the beautiful sunset at Shwe Sandaw Pagoda (A.D 1057), Bagan. The image shows the arrival of people to the different levels of terraces to get the best possible viewing position.

Image 2 – A young monk’s early morning walk, carrying a traditional urn. The image was taken at Nyaung Shwe Township, a few km from Inlay Lake in Shan State, North of Burma. It’s the monk’s meditative walk and calmness that inspired me.

Image 3 – After sunrise at U Bein Bridge across Taungthaman lake, 10km south of Mandalay. This teakwood bridge spans 1.2 km.

Image 4 – Shinbyu parade at Shwedagon Pagoda, Yangon. It’s a custom of all Buremese parents to admit their son to the Buddhist Sangha by performing a Shinbyu ceremony once they have reached an age of seven to ten.

Image 5 – School kid at Zoo Excursion in Yangon. He's wearing a traditional Thanaka made from ground bark.
Photos: My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

The photos were taken last year, when I was on the holidays to Greece Islands. Each island seems similar but yet quite different and each has its own character.
I believe that I should be chosen as a photographer on World Nomad Travel Photo Competition 2011, because I have the passion and the guts for being a great photographer.
Photography is my hobby and passion even though my profession is being an architect. My profession also helps me to see things through from different perspective in photography. I’m not only interested in buildings, but also interested in people, places, culture, food, landscape, trees, sky and the oceans. Everything that life is offering gives profound moments to my life and capturing a picture is recording those moments. I aim to pass these wonderful moments to who ever I know and to the next generations of the world.
I believe that a great photographer is someone who not only know the techniques, but has his or her own eyes for a good composition. You can see the same scene but everyone has their own way of viewing things from different perspective. That makes a great photographer unique.
I love travelling and experiencing different places. I like taking pictures at different times of the day and to experiment the amazing rhythm of natures’ colours.
I enjoy watching National Geography and working at NG would be my dream. Every time, I mentioned about my dream, some laugh, some said it’ll be the best job, some said you could be. For me, it is not about proving people what I can do, but it is about following my dreams and passion! By entering to this competition, I am one step close to my dreams. I believe that I can make a difference in the world.
