Stephen's place

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 4 photos

Last year Stephen lost his wife Heather to lung cancer. Stephen lives in Boree Creek in regional Australia. He's always had different ideas on the environment, farming methods, art and life. With Heather gone and their children grown up and living in other cities Stephen is now alone at the house with only the dog for company.
I've been passionate about photography for as long as I can remember. I used to borrow the key to the dark room at high school and come in on weekends. After travelling and living in Latin America for many years I returned to Australia to study. I love travel photography and photo documentary and the ability to tell a story through images.
I am studying photography in Melbourne, Australia. This year I won Best Use of Light at the Kodak Salon at the Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne and I'm a finalist at the Reportage photo documentary festival in Sydney in November this year.
I see this travel scholarship as an opportunity to develop my travel photographic skills, nurture my talent and learn from an experienced teacher and mentor. For many years Bhutan was restricted to tourism so the opportunity to learn about, travel through and photograph such an incredible place and culture while being mentored each day would be an incredible experience and opportunity.
I am dedicated to learning, growing and producing excellent photography and I am committed to forging a career in travel photography and photo documentary.
