Gallery: Mt. Hood National Forest - Yokum Ridge

I went for a backpacking trip to Yokum Ridge for the Meteor Showers. It is about a ten mile hike into the ridge so it is pretty far into the backcountry wilderness. These are just some pics of the Ridge, Mt. Hood and the Muddy Fork River. Crossing the river was awesome because I was in a valley with McNeil Point to me left, Yokum Ridge to my right and Mt. Hood right in front of me. One of the better backpacking trips I have done.

Gallery: Mt. Hood National Forest - Crater Rock

Crater is a lava dome at the top of Mt. Hood. It took us about 4 hours to hike up to it. The area is really neat because we were at 10,200 feet elevation. We were also by a fumarole which is a vent in the mountain which releases carbon dioxide and sulfur. The fumaroles produce a neon yellow color. This area is the highest elevation I have hiked to.

Gallery: Crater Lake National Park

I have visited Crater Lake twice now and both times it was amazing. I didnt really do much hiking, but I did take alot of pictures. On the way down we stopped in Deschutes National Forest and on the way back we stop in the city of Bend to visit a lava tunnel. The entire road trip was alot of fun and it felt good to explore otehr areas of Oregon.

These pictures are from a day hike we did on July 9. I think this is the best hike I have been on since arriving in Oregon. We were on the North side of the mountain so it was a different area than I have been to thus far. Hopefully the pictures do justice on how beautiful it was in that area.

This is a really cool 15 mile trail in the Columbia Gorge. There are 7 different waterfalls located on the trail, so it is a really entertaining trail to hike. We took our time and actually camped out for night to enjoy the area. This area is also known for its huge, deep canyons which are fun to hike on the edge of.
