Suddenly, one fine day, hearing the news trash, I decided to answer that I am here. Although I have come back to my reality, almost two years now, images come to my mind every day, and my feelings getting more and more stronger.
December the 19th2010, casing my Personal Miracle called “The awakening from the darkness”. I was going to work for Destiny’s children orphanage seated near Nairobi. I would help children in daily chores but mostly I would share love and care that they lack. The first day, I was greeted by the friendliest lady I have ever had the good fortune to meet, the Director herself. She and her happy family, lived in a tiny ramshackle house, separated in two rooms by a cloth. The first side was occupied by her workshop while the other side, was their bedroom, having plastic bags above a wooden chest instead of bed.
Sitting in that room, I will never forget when I was told how she came up with the idea of an orphanage. She was left a big house as heritage and instead of settling there with her family under better conditions, envisioned to gather children from street and provide them with home. “God told me that I should share my house and spread my love”. What an astounding plan!
During my stay there, not only did I admire the faithfulness of the Director that God will satisfy their daily needs but I also inspired from the undoubted delight in the eyes of children. In the same time, inside me, I was getting full of sorrow and shame, thinking that we live a shallow life, and getting satisfied from materialistic goods, forgetting that we are humans and not shopping bags.
Beyond question, this experience made me realize that I had been missing on important things in life; such as create and share. I had been busy sitting on my computer, chatting through Facebook and closing my eyes in social problems, when I could have been spending that time making a difference to other people's lives, as this Director did to me.
