My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

This small collection of photos was taken during a trip to Tibet in 2009. While there, I was so struck by the clarity of the air and subsequent brightness of the colors, which I was surprised to realize reminded me of my current American town, Flagstaff, Arizona. I had gone to Tibet with expectations of exoticism and instead felt a familiarity and connection to the place that I had never imagined would happen. Their high elevations and mountainous beauty created such similarities between two places that otherwise could hardly be more different. I enjoyed the challenge of capturing that familiar air quality on film, while simultaneously documenting the mesmerizing differences in our cultures.
