My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

The pictures I have submitted are from a place where I have lived for a while. It is quite hard to tell a story in five images but I have tried to select images I really like and which, in my opinion, fit together.

During my visit in this slum-like village in Slovakia near to the Slovak Paradise National Park I've been staying with a family. I was quite surprised when the father of that family told me that he has seen me before. I thought he must be kidding but when he said where I live I lost my breath. It came out that he had been putting cables into the ground nearby the place I live. Well, the world is small.

Small but not small enough that I could just pack my equipment and go anytime when I'd like to. Especially when you need to have a job and everything you know about the business of the photography industry is only theoretical. You need to stay with someone who knows more than you. Unfortunately the Academy I've visited for a few years did not teach me how to survive as a photographer. I've been most of the time an autodidact but sometimes it's necessary to get good advice from someone else.

My job has nothing to do with photography and I am spending a lot of the time in an office now. Actually I don't like staying at one place but somehow one gets used to anything. But it's absolutely necessary to get out at least for once in a while, isn't it?

Traveling to Bhutan would also let me see photography in a new light. Every trip gives you new experience and you start to see things differently than you have before. And that's exactly what I am looking for.

Thanks for this opportunity indeed.

Regards.
