The importance of teaching your Kids the art of design

NETHERLANDS | Wednesday, 8 August 2018 | Views [114]

When you are raising a child, you want to instill within them the same values and ideals that you have, give them access to a good education, so they have the opportunity to move up in the world and fulfill their dreams, and grant them the love and support they deserve. In the midst of all this, one thing many parents forget is the value of art and creativity in a child’s life and how such activities can enrich and enhance their young minds. In this short article, you will be shown of the benefits of having art actively present and encouraged within your kid’s life, with a deeper understanding of its importance both personally and socially.

The benefits

The first question you may be thinking is, “what can art actually do for my child?”. It is a fair question, especially if you are not artistically inclined yourself or have grown up without the creative practice as a part of your life. There are a plethora of reasons about how children can benefit from art. For example, the creation of art engages all five senses and increases neural connections making learning any discipline easier. Another reason to expose your child to art from a young age is that it promotes creative thinking which can be applied not only to creative subjects but the sciences. For example, it will give your child a mind that can toggle between both the analytical and the innovative.

Art as a refuge

Art is a useful tool in emotional communication for children and is often used by non profit organizations for children as a means of healing and outreach. Growing up is a difficult process and, especially with young children, communicating their feelings and worries verbally can come with its challenges. By giving your child the ability and opportunity to express their feelings in a creative medium, you are gifting them with another way to open up lines of communication with both you and their peers. Having a child who is emotionally healthy is just as important as having one who is physically healthy.

Thinking of the future

Of course, while art has all of these benefits, by letting your child explore and hone their creative side from a young age, they may even find that this is their calling. Art, as creative as it is, is still a discipline and extremely vital to a huge amount of industries, such as marketing for example and there are lots of options to study art as your child gets older. For example, they could find their calling by doing a bachelor of graphic design degree at a reputable university when they get older. So, not only does art offers your child the skills to pursue any number of vocations, it may even prove to be what your child is a talented artist and uncover where their professional future lies.

Teaching your child about art is just as vital and important as having them learn about the sciences, so get out there and enrich their childhood with creativity.
