Madagascar

This was my first time in Africa, my first also in Madagascar. I had been living mainly in developed countries until then, in the USA and in Turkey. So, Madagascar took me by surprise. The pictures here, reflect my thoughts, my emotions.

Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I love photography because of its unique characteristics. Life is hurtling by us at incredible speed, and yet photography stops this, captures the moments we want to relive, or those moments that move us, that we want to remember, forever. If poetry is emotions recollected in tranquility as Wordsworth put it, photography is love remembered forever. No other medium delivers the same way. Memory, as we all know is selective. We choose to remember certain events and not others. Yet, photography " remembers" all for us, the way we want to remember, the point we click the shutter. As a student and teacher of Phyiscs ( at the graduate and undergraduate levels ) for most of the past 35 years, that studies time and place, photography being the medium that combines both, I feel I am uniquely able to appreciate it and therefore hope will be chosen. I am already very excited about this opportunity and looking forward to Oman, where I have never been !
