My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

nam-myoho-renge-kyo is a Buddhist chant and is the way to awaken one's Buddha nature.
If chosen for this extraordinary opportunity, I hope to gain knowledge of what it's like to work in the field on a travel assignment. To deal with situations that are not always favorable, or comfortable, dealing with camera issues and to experience on the spot decision making techniques that only a professional who works in the field can offer me. I want to be in unfamiliar surroundings, and to learn and experience different customs and traditions. To interact with people and take part in as much as I can!
I had the opportunity to assist a Photographer in Hawaii, and I soaked up as much knowledge and information as I possibly could. Dealing with stressful situations and getting the job completed in a timely and professional manner.
To be able to assist and follow a NatGeo Photographer would be a lifelong dream. Since I was a child, any NatGeo Special or Wild Kingdom, anything with Jacques Cousteau, I would watch in utter amazement. If I could capture a fraction of the images I've seen in my lifetime, for another child to be awed and influenced by, as I was, it would be a huge accomplishment.
The pictures I've submitted are from the Democratic National Convention in 2008. It was an amazing experience and I put myself right in the middle of whatever I could. I normally shoot 35mm, but haven't been able to afford film, so I shoot with a Nikon Coolpix 4800. I work a full time job, but I was able to take advantage of history in the making. I put myself everywhere.
I hope to gather a collection of beautiful images, that will reflect what I've learned from Jason, what my perspective is/what my eye sees, and to document my beautiful experience in Bhutan.
