I am Lester G. Babiera, 22 years old, a writer from the Philippines. Since I started a career as a writer for newspapers and magazines here in the Philippines, I learned to have a passion and love for traveling. I have been going all around the country for work and for leisure. I enjoyed the fact of learning the cultures of the places that I go to and the beauty that is not available in the concrete city of Manila, the place where I reside. My background in photography can be traced back when I was studying in college. I was taking photographs for our school paper. After graduating college, I set aside my love for photography and tried making videos. I applied for a travel documentary scholarship here in world nomads but I and my partner only ended up on fifth place. Since making films is expensive, I applied as a writer in a cultural agency in the Philippines, a work close to my heart. Now that World Nomads opened another scholarship, I'm trying to win this. I think that this scholarship will help me fall in love back to the photography. Traveling to Oman will open my mind to another culture different from mine and this will be an experience that I will forever treasure.

My Scholarship entry - My Kind of Adventure

Mides and I are photographers in our school publication in the Philippines and during our stint in the paper, we've discovered that we share the passion of traveling and the love for culture. Upon learning the World Nomads scholarship, we thought of featuring the Northern Cordilleras of the Philippines because of the exciting adventure that it offers and its amazing history and culture.

In the university, we have developed a skill for making videos. As students, we have offered our skills in making promotional videos for our university and other organizations, have been partners in creating simple on-cam interviews for our newspaper's activities and had been together in making a documentary that tackles social issues in the province of Aklan in the Philippines.

Someday, we aim to become professional filmmakers because we would like to share stories through moving images in the best possible way. We wish to win the scholarship because of our desire for traveling, the experience and most of all, because of our hunger for the knowledge in filmmaking. We believe that we would be learning a lot during the scholarship and the experience will be treasured for the rest of our lives.
