Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Hello, my name is Amanda Jane Cullen, but everyone calls me Aj. I am 22 years old and I am from Buffalo, New York, USA. I am currently working on a postgraduate degree in Chinese Studies at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland – I am especially interested in how the lives of ordinary people are affected by rapid change both in China and across the globe. I am a person who is inspired by the world around me, and I think this is where my love of photography stems from. Taking a photo is an art like no other, it allows us to take a moment or an idea or a memory and save it to be presented at times and in places where it is most needed to be seen and remembered. The reason why I am applying for this opportunity is because I want to improve my ability to capture and relay subjects which make the world compelling and I believe there are no better teachers than travel and new experiences.
