A 'place' I have visited

Life is not always about what you see from the outside. Life is full of stories that are Untold and Hidden. I want to witness those stories of People and Culture. And tell those “Hidden Stories” to the world. As an art, Photography gives me that freedom.

When I learnt the fundamentals of photography 3 years ago, I realized that if I’m creative enough I could give a real meaning to the phrase “A Picture is worth a thousand words.” What you see today is the results of my enthusiasm and dedication to do it to the best of my ability and trying to be the best.

After all my dedication and development, I’m at a point where I seem to be stagnated. With lots of questions and very little answers and moreover with very Little Opportunity and nowhere to go …I’m missing A Catalyst, to take my passion to the next level.

A Catalyst such as this scholarship. A Catalyst, which shows me the missing pieces and Educates me to take great images. A Catalyst that gives me the Opportunity to tell all those “Hidden Stories” to the world. Because in life, (as “Maya Angelou” states) “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

Photos: A Place of Hope- Stupa, Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka

If you’re passionate enough you should take the risk. So it is with no regrets and with the willingness to learn that I decided to give up my budding architecture career to come to Hong Kong in search of opportunities in photography.
I love photography because of its ability to communicate how I feel at a particular moment at a particular place. To me capturing an image is about painting a feeling generated by the context. The sounds, smells, textures and most importantly the light contributes to this and it drives me to take better shots, hoping with each new click I will be able to capture a new mood, a new atmosphere, a new message.
I believe I have to perfect many things from simple ones like breathing , to complicated ones like equipment mastery and what I have self learnt during the past two years is very little compared to what I have to learn. Unfortunately I have had very little guidance up to now and very little opportunity to learn. I believe with such an opportunity I will be able to become the photographer that I want to be. Not a person who simply adds some more images to the world but a person that expose the real essence of place and the stories they tell.
