My Scholarship entry - The Sunken World of Artex

When I was younger, a teacher told me the present doesn't exist. The “now” is moving ever forward and impossible to pinpoint. In the moment you picked the present out, it already passed. It’s funny how something as mundane as this becomes the reason why I’m drawn to photography.
Six months ago, I was scared of using a camera; I had zero knowledge in taking photos. But the thought of doing something as seemingly impossible as preserving the present drew me into the art. After much practice taking pictures of inanimate objects, I took pictures of the real world. All I had was determination and a whole lot of guts.
I took photojournalism classes then. I met these wonderful people in the Artex Compound on one of my photo assignments and right then and there I realized I wasn't just preserving images. I was also preserving the emotions in that slice of the time-space continuum.
I plan on being a photojournalist for these reasons. I have much to learn and I know that this scholarship with Jason Edwards as mentor would help me reach the borders of my capacity as a photojournalist and push them further. This is a wild shot at a dream and I sincerely hope you consider my entry.
Thanks!
