New Smyrna Beach

USA | Wednesday, 27 May 2015 | Views [123] | Scholarship Entry

The World’s Most Famous Beach is Daytona Beach, but not many people know that just a short drive away exists another paradise. New Smyrna Beach is a small beach town that houses plenty of character. It is dubbed “The Shark Bite Capital of the World” but I can simply call it home. Within the city limits, any traveler can find an eclectic range of eateries, arts, and community.
When on vacation, it’s important for travelers to enjoy familiar comforts and New Smyrna’s eateries can help travelers feel more at home while being away. New Smyrna has many local restaurants that cater to a surprising amount of cultures. My personal favorite? Wake Up Cafe. Wake Up Cafe is a local Argentinian eatery that serves breakfast and lunch. By frequenting the restaurant so much, I have found Argentinian food is unlike any other. If a guilty pleasure was a sandwich, it would be the Wake Up’s lomito sandwich. Once paired with aioli seasoned fries, the end result is so delicious the calorie amount is irrelevant. Wake Up Cafe is only one of the many local restaurants that line the streets that make up New Smyrna Beach.
Art is what adds beauty to the world. New Smyrna’s involvement with the arts has rapidly grown. The city hosts monthly art shows, a growing high school art program, several art galleries on its map, and plenty of natural inspiration. The main hub for art is the Atlantic Center for the Arts. The center was founded to ensure that the natural beauty of New Smyrna intact, so future artists can be inspired by its natural beauty just as older artists were.
While we lack the southern accent, New Smyrna Beach oozes southern charm with its small town feel. New Smyrna’s population is less than twenty-five thousand. It is simply a town where the locals grew up together and have known each other their entire lives. We pride ourselves on ensuring everyone feels welcome. New Smyrna hosts monthly, seasonal, and annual events that take place all over New Smyrna. These events range from food truck festivals to art shows to wine walks. When we are not holding events, you are never more than fifteen miles away from the beach. With its small population, New Smyrna Beach has something for everyone.
From food to art to its local festivities, there is no other place in the world like New Smyrna Beach. It holds sunshine, lovely beaches, and friendly people, and there is no better place to visit. I am fortunate to be able to call it my home.
