My documentary is about the emotional experience surrounding death which has
changed the way I perceive life. I was inspired by a phone call that told me
two girls from my town had been tragically killed. It sparked the memory of
receiving a call telling me an overseas friend had died in a motorbike
accident.
Planning included - brainstorms,
sketches linked to spontaneous ideas, storyboards and writing a journal. Continuity
was an important consideration. I started with a skeleton plot which evolved over
time. Once I had the foundations I worked my film around the music.
Challenges faced: Lighting,
inexperienced camerawoman (mother), new high definition camera - not compatible
with outdated editing software. After various trials a solution was found. Filming
walking scene needed a moving camera – improvised ‘dolly’ by gaffer taping
camera to bike pedal.
My ambition: to be a world-class
filmmaker with aspirations to combine multimedia, environmental issues and
cultural awareness to increase people’s knowledge and understanding of OUR amazing
world. I’d endeavour to enlighten and stir people’s emotions while inspiring them
to think responsibly and take action. My passion is film-making. An interview
with abc3 inspired me further. I am self taught and therefore, desire professional
mentoring.
