Chiang Mai - Thailand

The following takes place between 10th and 13th of July!!! (24 quote lol)

So we decided we wanted to go somewhere for a few days!! We thought about Hong Kong, Bang Kok, and the Philippines. After talking to a few people we decided Chiang Mai would be the best and cheapest place for us!! A few minutes later we booked the flights (Credit Cards lol) and we were off two days later!!

Arriving at Chiang Mai airport at 8:30am and 28 degrees, we were happy to be greeted by Ian the Londoner running the hotel we were staying at!! The Queen Victoria!! 20 Minutes later we were in our large room with the next two days fully planned out!!

First stop Doi Suthep. The temple is 5,528 feet up a very large ant hill making it the eighth largest mountain in Thailand. The view for the top is amazing even though it’s a little foggy way up there, you can still see the whole of the city!! After taking it all, we ventured into the temple, but not before trying to cover up all of our bear skin!! Not having any idea how to on the robes we were attracting attention!! Luckily for us a very kind lady took pity and dressed us properly!! I’m glad we went dressed so inappropriately, because otherwise we would never have had the chance to wear the traditional robes. Inside the temple was amazing, there were so many people some just walking around and some praying. Even though there were so many people it was so quiet and peaceful.

Once back at the hotel we got ready and went out in our long search to find somewhere with vegetarian food. After walking in one big circle, we soon found somewhere that looked semi clean to eat in!! We then waited back at the guess house for it to get dark so we could hit the Night Bazzar Market. Ian drove us down there as he said it was to dangerous to walk anywhere after dark. So we were happy for the ride. We got dropped off in the middle of the market and worked our way up and down the narrow aisles. We put on our bartering shoes and set off to find the good bargains. Once we got into it we really got into it. Hanna brought a Thai slick bed cover starting at 1600 Bart. Down to 600 Bart. Now that’s some good bartering!!

We then were advised to get a TukTuk home, which is a kinda moped thing with two seats at the back. It was so much fun, dodging in and out of traffic and genially fearing for our lives!!! Wahoo…living life on the edge!!!

Back at the guess house we had time for one quick drink before having an early night, for an early (for us) start.

7am and we were woken by Ian knocking on the door, slowly dragging our bodies out of bed to get dressed we made it just in time for some breakfast. We waited for our bus to arrive (which was late!. Thai time apparently) we soon jumped in and introduced our selves to the group.

Our first stop was a hill tribe, it was very interesting to see how these people lived in remote places with very little around them, apart from crops which they seemed to work on all day. After them begging us to buy their merchandise we spent very little time there to get a proper look around. We then went on a short drive to an elephant camp. We were all pretty unprepared to jump on these huge animals. After getting on which was a mission in its self, we were soon on our way feeding our very greedy elephants all the bananas we brought, we were not even 10 mins into the journey and already we were running out. We felt very much in demand each time the giant trunk would be in our faces, asking for yet another banana!! We all felt a little unsure, as our tour guides where no older than 15. They were just walking around very slowly, smoking and just laughing at us. We had completed our tour on the elephants and gladly got off. A short walk down a very steep, muddy hill and we came to a cage which would ferry us across the river to our tour guide Tom. Two at a time, the ride was quite fun!! Then we would begin our trek to a waterfall.

At first the walk was ok. Then it got harder. We had to claim up these ridiculous rocks and because we didn’t really know we were going to do this we only had Crocs to wear. We had to walk along tree trunks, where our tour guide Tom and Hanna had to help me across, as my sense of balance isn’t well…good at all. And if I slipped my body would have been splattered across the really sharp looking rocks below us!! Oh dear lord it was scary sh*t!!!! But we made it!! Just! The really hard walk was worth it though..the amazing waterfall in the middle of nowhere was very pretty to look at, and after our long sweaty walk was nice to bathe in too, although it was flipping freezing.

When we got back to our bus we were happy to sit down, we took another sort drive to the water rafting base, where we had lunch and learnt all the ropes to water rafting. We weren’t the most confident as we were told it might flip over because of the lack of water in the river!! Great. We thought as we put on all our protective gear. Before we knew it we were off going down massive rapids and having the time of our lives’! Some of us got out to go swimming, but Hanna decided she didn’t want to swim with the fishes and water snakes that day!! We had lots of water fights with the other half of the group and had a really good laugh. We came to the end of water rafting, where we had to jump on a bamboo raft, which our water rafting guide called it bamboo sinking! We didn’t quite know what he meant by that until we all sat on the bamboo and nearly touched the bottom! It was quite funny. We kept trying to tip on right over while one guy in our group was at the front trying to steer the thing!! We also got up to try bamboo surfing. It was a perfect ending for a perfect day!!

Back at the guess house Ian insisted in taking us out for the night. And also said he wanted to take us to a GOGO bar (Hanna wasn’t quite sure what a GOGO bar was. but I didn’t know this until after we went, I wish I could of at least warned her what we were about to see!!!) We walked into a small bar called spotlight and in the middle of the bar was a stage with about 6 poles in the middle of it. As we sat there pretty amazed and not wanting to look up. We soon felt ok enough to spot the lady boys from the real girls!! It was quite amusing to watch dirty old men trying to pick them up!! But on a serious note you have to feel sorry for these girls as it’s normally them who have to look after the whole family. With very little money they really have no choice but to sell them selves!!

To end the night we went to watch Thai Boxing which was really funny to watch. People in the crowd would grab their legs so they couldn’t fight back. And the fighters were the biggest posers as they always wanted to stand in front of the camera. Ha!

Getting back to the guess house we packed our stuff ready for an early flight.

We waved goodbye to Chiang Mai and headed back to our now home Singapore!!

Back at Singapore we haven’t been doing much at all as Leigh was very ill with food poising. Typical. Three days before we leave for our big adventure in Australia!! Yayayayay!!! She’s feeling better today though! Phew! Peace out dude’s and Dudettes!!

Malaysia

Thursday 5th July 2007Malaysia – Johor

In search of everything cheap we ventured across the border to Johor. It stared as a dark rainy day, but got better when we arrived. Driving round the city you can see all the differences between Johor and Singapore firstly the cars. No longer would we see BMWs and Mercedes, Ferrari’s and Aston Martins. In their place would be the banged up old motors, that chav’s like to drive at home!! And the odd VW Beetle. (Sorry Kitty I tried to get a photo for you.) Secondly the people, they are a lot more tanned. I also noticed a lot more homeless people and beggars!!

After our snippet of culture we went shopping. While Leigh and I had to try and hold back, Hannah went for it with everything she had!! Being her last day on holiday she was more than happy to spend as much as she could!! We all separated off apart form Leigh and I to get in as much shopping as poss!!

Meeting at half 2 for lunch was a disaster!! Leaving Leigh in charge of writing the order was not a good idea! I wanted garlic bread and spag bog, and ended up with pizza and watery fish pasta!! Hannah’s spag bog was cold and nothing tasted nice but with can you expect for £5 for 4 meals lol!!

After shopping till we were almost ready to drop we found a place that sold knock off Dvd’s and CD’s!! Happily sifting thought for at least half and hour we all came away with some thing we wanted!! ( IVE GOT 24 SEASON 6 YAY!!!) Heading back to the car talking about everything we had bought, Leigh was a bit distracted with Malcolm’s bberry and didn’t get into the lift with us in time, as the impatient woman was pressing all the buttons closed the doors!! All I heard as the doors slid closed was Wahrrr!! Lol!! Going straight back up in the lift to get her she wasn’t there!! This is where the hour long search for Leigh and the car began!!

Deciding it would be easier to find Leigh in the car we set off to find it!! Walking up and down, round and round the massive 3 story underground hot and sticky car park, we soon realised we had no idea where the car was!! Mean while Leigh was standing waiting at the car!! After what seemed like hours of meaningless wondering we went back up to the shopping centre to retrace our steps!! Leigh had given up waiting for us and with the bberry rang home to try and get a message to us!! Not having any signal underground we didn’t get it!! Finally we found the car!! Driving up and down, round and round again in search for the missing one. Leigh had gone back to the car and it was gone!!! Im not sure how we found her in the end but we did!! After all of this we still had to get back through customs (they have machine guns and machities here Kitty) and back into Singapore in rush hour!!!

Finally getting through and getting another 30 days on our visa luckily we had one last thing to do on Hannah’s last day!! Monkeys!! Our Fantastic tour guide knew exactly where to find them!! Driving up a side road there they were just hanging around minding there own business!! They are obviously used to people and cameras!! And didn’t mind our temporary intrusion into there busy day of forridging.

Arriving home with little time for Hannah to pack the new additions to her wardrobe, we had dinner and said our goodbyes!! It was very sad to see her leave with still so much to do and see. Two weeks in Singapore just isn’t enough!!

Chiang Mai (Thailand) watch out Me and Leigh are on our way…..

Divine Bar + Raffles

Tuesday 3rd July 2007

Divine Bar (Gotham City) + Raffles

All dressed and everywhere to go!! We have waited this long to visit amazing bar just for Malcolm. He wanted to see our faces when we set eyes on the room!! And it was worth it!! Unfortunately they don’t allow you to take any photos in there but Leigh managed to sneak a few!! We had cocktails (and Malcolm as usual had a beer) and just sat there drinking it all in! It’s a shame the band weren’t playing because we really would have felt like high society!!

We went to a Chinese/Thai street restaurant, where Hannah and I shared the most amazing Thai green curry!! (Sorry Dad yours is now a very close second!!) Leigh had Veggie noodles the best meal she had since we have been here!! And Cheep!!

After we had all eaten so much it was hard to walk ,it was a short stumble to Raffles for Singapore Slings and peanut shell fights!! Raffles Hotel is so big if we didn’t have Malcolm as our tour guide I would still be lost trying to get to the bar!! Finding a table we ordered the famous Singapore Slings and started to add to the tone of peanut shells on the crunchy floor!! It felt so wrong to be making such a mess in this beautiful bar, but it is tradition!! Lol!!

The Journey home (the apartment sorry) was they best way to top of our nite! Tri Shaws!! Bikes with side carts!! (If you still don’t know what they are, look at the pics!) Me and Leigh in one Malcolm and Hannah in the other!! Me and Leigh obviously had the one with cheesy music blaring out dancing and singing our way slowly down the streets of Singapore!! The best bit was when we got to a slight hill near the apartments and had to get out and push!! I wish we had a photo of that lol!!

So all in all we had a fantastic night!!

Obviously no night would be complete with out a trip to China One to watch our favourite band!! And a few drinks of course!!!!

Little India/ Ladies Night..Coz The Feelings Right!!

Ok. Since we last updated this thing, we feel the need to tell you about the last few days, coz they have been fun!

I will put pictures up too!

Right Tuesday night we took a bus to little India, where we walked around and found a dodgy place to eat.

This time we all felt a little better though because there weren’t too many dead things hanging in the windows! Phew!

We sat down in a place that look slightly like a mental home, and choose our food.

Both Hanna’s had some kind of chicken curry and rice.

While I had this thing, which I can’t really explain.

Kind of like an omelette with vegetable korma inside it!

It was lush I tell thee.

People seemed to like starring at us here too. Especially this one lady who kept looking at Hanna all through our meal.

You would think these people have never seen long blonde hair before!! Crazyness!!

So when we paid $4 each. We left with one insisted mobile number……and carried on looking around.

We then walked past Gotham City and took a few pictures of it; we have not been inside the building yet as my dad wants to see the look of Hanna’s face’s when we go in there. (This place is amazing. Love it)

Then we went up to the Equinox (City space) which is this really tall hotel with a bar/club at the very top of the building. The views are amazing, especially at night.

Then we took a long walk home…… I mean apartment = p opps!

Last night me and Hanna went out for “Ladies Night” where everywhere is free entry and if you’re lucky and go to the right places the first 3 drinks are free! Yayay!! Freeee!!

We decided to start at the Crazy Elephant again coz we know there are great bands there to listen to.

We sat down next to a big crowd of people, and it wasn’t before long they were dragging our table across the bar for us to come and sit with them. Turned out they all live here, and are in the shipping business!! Bloody shipping. Can’t get away from it! But I guess I wouldn’t hear anything else being in the country of the biggest container port in the world!! Borrrring!!

So yeh any way after they had brought us a few drinks (yes they were trying to get us drunk, but only in a good way! Lol)

We all got talking and they were really funny guys.

“WE MET RON BURGANDY” ok we didn’t actually meet him, but this one guy (Stuart) was so much like him in every way! He was so funny!! Some of them were from Norway, UK, Canada and Kazakhstan “VERY NICE”

Hanna and I kept quoting Borat to him; I don’t think he found it to amusing after a while!! Oppsy!!

After Crazy Elephant we all went to a club called Attica.

It was really cool in there, with an outside bar at the back.

At this point we were all really drunk and we just danced the night away…..and didn’t get home until about 5am this morning.

So what are we all doing now? Sitting inside and being totally lazy! The weather is hazy so we’re not missing out!!!

Will keep you all updated. Check out our new pics! Yay.

Peace Out Man!!

Singapore Fun!!

(ok ok jonni G I have had it up to here with you..IM DOING IT NOWWW!!! = P)

By the way this whole entire blog is gonna be full of rubbish, so bare with me. Ok.

Hellllloo there people of the world.

Right well since me and Hanna have arrived in Singapore we haven’t been doing much but sunbathe and gym. Yes you heard me gym!

On our first night here dad (Malcolm) took me and Hanna to a really nice Mexican where we had the classic Chimmychanger. We love to venture! Haha. Not! Then we went on a boat ride up the river, which is a really great thing to do at night, because all the lights are so pretty. Then we ended the night with a drink at Bar-Cleona (great name) After that we were pretty tired so we went straight to bed, were we slept until 2 in the afternoon. Opps!

Our friend Hannah arrived on Sunday and the fun began wooh! Yesterday the weather wasn’t to great, so we hopped on the Fraser bus and went down to suntec city, which is a big shopping mall.

As me and Hanna watched other Hannah buy lots of lovely clothes, the temptation was very difficult. But we stayed strong and didn’t buy anything!! Ok maybe a top or two…but that was it. Promise! Haha.

Last night we decided to go down to funky town (China town) and eat out there. This was a very Errrm good experience. Being a veggie I had to keep my head low while walking through there. All the dead hanging animals nearly did make me throw up. But I was distracted trying to explain to this guy that didn’t speak hardly any English that I didn’t want any meat or fish in my food. He did think I was slightly mad. But thank the lord I got noodles and veg. and it was really nice. Both Hanna’s had some rice and chicken, and said it was nice too. The food there is very cheap $3 or something like that. Trying to eat with chop sticks though, coz they didn’t have anything else, was fun. I was tempted to use my hands at one point! I think I can safely say..im crap at using chop sticks. Hanna on the other hand was very good. I think she has done this before.

So after getting use to being starred at in china town and getting called Charlie’s angles (Ha! Very odd.) We went through to the market bit and looked around. Hannah .C. got stopped by one of many people trying to get us to have a full body message and decided to go for it. So we left her behind, and went on to look around. We made a little friend called Eddie. He kept seeing us everywhere and found it hilarious. Not sure what was quite so funny, but it made him smile at least! We did a little bit of shopping; I brought this really cool camera, which is now my baby.

And Hanna brought a new lens for her very pro camera. So we were both happy with our time in china town.

So after funky town we decided to go out for a drink or two at a near by place called crazy elephant.

There was a live band, who were really good fun to watch. As we were sipping on our Singapore slings, we looked outside to see it was absolutely chucking it down! I turned round to Hanna and none of us had to say one word we both chucked off our flip flops and ran outside. Everyone in the bar was laughing at us and thought we were a good laugh. And one guy even took some pictures for us. After that we ran all the way back to our apartment, on our way we jumped in the fountain! Soooo much fun. We were in there for quite some time, at this point we were drenched!! When we got back to our place Hanna thought it would be a good idea to go we swimming in the pool (sorry guys) fully clothed! All Hannah .C. could do is sit back in the dry-ish and laugh at us.

Today is another day and who knows what other crazy things we might do………….
