Photos: Kenya

Hi!
My name is Katie Saunders. I'm an outgoing 24 year old passionate about seeing the world. I feel happiest when I'm snapping photos, meeting new people, and immersing myself in a different culture.
I first found my passion for photography when I was in highschool. My photography teacher named Mr.Blacklock really inspired me to use photography as a creative outlet, and travel as a way of opening your mind. When I was having a tough time at home, he encouraged my artistic ability and love of photography.
These pictures of from a solo trip I took in 2009 to to Kenya, Africa. When my grandpa committed suicide in 2006 it made me realize how short life is. I wanted to see the world and decided to make a bucket list. The first thing on my bucket list was to volunteer in africa. Also to see a giraffe in the wild, ride in a hot air balloon, to ride a camel, and to go to Amsterdam, Holland--all of which I was able to cross off on one amazing trip!
I volunteered in a town called Kwale at a primary school. For three weeks I had no electricity, no running water, and no flushing toilets. It made me appreciate all the things I took for granted back home in my home country of Canada.
