      <title>Who on earth came up with this idea?</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;I don't know how I came up with the hair-brained thought that conquering the world's tallest free-standing mountain would be a good challenge but on 4 October 2007 I set off to Moshi, Tanzania and 2 days later found myself walking (albiet at a very slow pace) up the side of Mt Kilimanjaro.  &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;At 5,895 MASL it is Africa's highest point.  But having said that, Mt Kenya is a far more difficult climb.  The thing that makes Kili so difficult to conquer is the altitude.  My trek was for 6 days (5 up, 1 down) but even then I had to take it slowly slowly (pole, pole in Swahili) to ensure that my body had a chance to aclimitize.  Below is my diary from the climb:&lt;/p&gt;</description>
