My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I went to Israel hoping to understand a little more of what I heard to be one of the most complex problems in the world. I thought that if I could talk to people and capture them with my camera I would begin to see more of the truth. As truth unfolded I found myself wrapped in something much bigger than I and more confusing the more I knew. This feeling was both frightening and exhilarating. I love photography because it allows me to feel deeply about things I would never get the chance to. I felt deep sadness and wonder and confusion all at once. Being in a different place was so unrelated to my entire life and yet here I was, suddenly it was a part of me and I couldn't forget it even if I tried.

Photography has always been my way to touch things that feel far, or comment on things that feel close. My experiences are unique and I relish the opportunity to share, comment and then have them to keep. It is so embedded in me to photograph. Its like writing, it just feels so natural, a way of thinking, communicating and loving.
