Photos: THE RIO GRANDE DE MINDANAO

I’m Jophel Botero Ybiosa, 26 years old, born and raised to a simple family in Quezon City. My inquisitiveness and enthusiasm brought me into an exciting and brilliant world of Photography. It is a lively dimension that captures my emotion and imagination. As a photographer, I want the audience to foresee in my images our country’s distinct identity, cultural wealth and way of life, hopes, struggles and aspirations. My goal is to be an inspiration to many and make a positive influence in the society.

I think I should be chosen for the scholarship grant because I’m passionate, humble and willing to learn. I also believe that the travel grant in Greenland is a great opportunity to express, explore and excel in Photography.

Sulu Archipelago is composed of mixed community of Muslims and Christians. It is also dominated by Tausugs who were among the first inhabitants of the Philippines to embrace Islam as a religion and a way of life.
Based on a survey conducted by National Statistical Coordination Board or NSCB in 2011, Sulu is considered as the poorest province in the Philippines with a poverty incidence level of 63.2 percent.
