My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

My name is Jessica Brown. I’ve lived in London, Ontario, Canada my whole life, but it has been my dream to travel the world, not only for the main reason: Photography! Also to experience the culture and diversity of each place I visit. I’ve been to a handful of places in my 25 years of life including, Las Vegas, Florida, Cuba and Mexico. There are just so many places to see that I’m not sure I can see them all, but I can sure try!
I enjoy sharing these moments that I’ve captures on my trips, with family and friends. I can only imagine what it’s like to share your photos with the entire world, and the difference it must make in people’s lives.
I one day, hope, that I’m able to share my photos with the entire world. I hope that my photos end up in history books, magazines, or even just on someone’s wall, because then I’ll know it meant something!
In 2010, I won an award in the Photolife Image International Competition. It was an image of 2 elephants, one with the tusk curled around the others eye. It won me 2nd place in the nature category. I won all kinds of great photo equipment, as well, my work was published in Photolife’s February/March 2010 edition. People often look at the photo and ask me if I took it in Africa, and I laugh and say “I wish, it was taken at the Toronto, Ontario Zoo.” A great honor nevertheless!
I think, given the opportunity to travel and learn from an experienced award winning travel photography, it would make such a large impact on my life, and hopefully others.
The photos I am submitting are from my trip to Cuba in November 2010. I think each photo tells a story about the culture and just the day to day life of Cubans. All five images were taken in Havana, Cuba.
Thank you for your consideration!
