Home sweet home

Arrived safely yesterday around 6:30 at the house. We had no problems in airports or customs and it was great when the customs official smiled and said welcome home. It was a great time and when I think back I wish we had more time in each port to do some more sightseeing. I've got some pictures I'll be posting later.

Stay tuned...

Palermo, Sicily

Today we went to the cappistrani monestary where we saw ton of real mummys. A little spooky but kind of interesting.

Once again the travelers have found their way around town. We did cheat today and took two taxis but one was necessary as we had gotten to the other side of the island to Modello beach via bus and the buses has stopped running. We had to be back on the ship by 5:30 and it was an hour ride. We made it with time to spare. Our last port tomorrow is a fun day at sea and then back to the US. I must say I'm a little ready to return.

Rome, Naples, and Capri

Well we did Rome yesterday and we did great. We took a train from our port to Rome which took about an hour, from there we rode the subway(Metro) to the Coliseum, it was huge we walked around it but did not go inside, the line was enormous!! After that we had lunch and then went to find the Trevali fountain, we took the subway again and found a fountain that we thought was the correct one, we learned later on the ship that it was not. We were wondering what all the fuss was over such a small fountain. Anyway we were tired by then and headed back to the ship. We have to be on board every night by 6:30 and when you add an hour train ride to that you have to leave pretty early. By the ride home Kenny and I must have looked like pros because people were asking us about where the main station was and if they were on the correct train.

Today we arrived in Naples, another large town, however we are right downtown so navigation was much easier. We did take an hour ferry ride to the Isle of Capri, and it was beautiful, so quaint. All the streets in the main city center are for walking only, you have to take a tram to the top. Tons of shopping, although out of my league, Dolce, Hermes, Gucci just to name a few. Had a great lunch of Calzones, put Milanos to shame I must say. Back on the boat by 5:00 and ready for our last stop tomorrow of Sicily. We're having a great time but will need to rest when we get back. Tired, tired, tired, but can't stop yet.

Oh one more thing, the other universal word is Beer.

Nice and Livorno

Well we had a great time in Nice yesterday. We walked all over the city and visited a fortress that dates back to the 15th century. Its a beautiful city, tons of gorgeous yachts that Kenny was lusting after.

Today we arrived in Livorna, a small industrial town on the coast. Not much engish spoken here but luckily they do understand the word "Toilet". We decided to once again wing it on our own and it took quite a while to navigate the city. We did get on a train to Florence unfortunately by the time we go there we only had about an hour and a half. We walked around and saw Duomo a beautiful cathedral. Had lunch at a sidewalk cafe Prociutto and Melon and Gelato for dessert. Rushed back to the train station and once again had to sprint to make it.

Tomorrow Rome, wish us luck!

Jennifer and Kenny

Nice

We arrived yesterday in Barcelona our luggage did not. We were late to Newark because of the weather in Memphis. We sprinted through the Newark airpor, I felt like we were on Amazing Race, got to the plane as they were shutting the door and they opened it up for us. They said our luggage would arrive because they couldn't leave without it, not true. They sent it on the next flight and it made it on the boat, however it delayed us at the airport about an hour so we had only about 30 minutes in downtown Barcelona.

We have arrived in Nice, France this morning and will be taking a tender boat ( a small shuttle boat) We don't have any fixed plans for an excursion. We're planning on going to the flower market, an area that has lots of shops an is kind of like an open air market, also a park nearby that has a great water fall. I"ll let you know how that goes.

The Frantic Day Before

Well my obsession continues with organizing everything at home. I believe I have everything set for the boys while we're gone. Thanks to Jeannine, Mom, Mary and Dad the boys should be fine and arrive at school, practices, and games on time.

I haven't finished packing yet which is probably why I had a dream last night that I arrived at the airport without any luggage and not enough time to go back and get it.

I'm not positive that we'll have access to a computer on board the ship but my guess is that we will. If so I'll update this journal as often as possible. Here is our itinerary

Depart Memphis

9/19/08 1:55 PM Arrive Newark, NJ 5:47 PM

Depart Newark

9/19/08 7:10 PM Arrive Barcelona 9/20/08 9:15 AM

Date Port Arrive Depart

20-Sep Barcelona, Spain 7:00 PM

21-Sep Villefranche (Nice), France 10:00 AM 7:00 PM Tendered

22-Sep Livorno (Florence/Pisa), Italy 7:00 AM 7:00 PM Docked

23-Sep Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy 7:00 AM 7:00 PM Docked

24-Sep Naples, Capri, Italy 7:00 AM 7:00 PM Docked

25-Sep Palermo (Sicily), Italy 7:00 AM 6:00 PM Docked

26-Sep Cruising Cruising

27-Sep Barcelona, Spain 6:00 AM

Depart Barcelona

9/27/08 10:45 am Arrive Newark, NJ 2:00 PM

Depart Newark

9/27/08 3:25 PM Arrive Memphis 5:25 PM
