It exudes of culture no matter where you might find yourself. A common tradition in Taiwan is known as ?? (bàibài), which translates to the worshipping of ancestors. Taiwanese, young and old, practice this ritual; so it should come as no surprise that the mountainous island is packed with temples. I remain amazed each day by the ancient objects and the honorable people. My name is Jennifer. I am a Canadian who has been residing in Taiwan for the past seven years. I fell in love with Asian culture and its way of life upon immediate arrival and have since developed a passion for photography. I am in my second year at the international university here, studying Journalism and Mass Communication. Language lessons and schooling have helped me to become somewhat proficient in Mandarin; I read and write traditional characters. Outside of studies and work, I like hiking locally and climbing indoor walls or outdoor rocks. I am an enthusiastic traveler, having backpacked through India, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Sri Lanka along with several other countries around South East Asia. The opportunity of a South African safari would be unbelievably fascinating. I've always had a passion for animals, tame or wild, and I believe they make perfect subjects for patient photographers. More often than not I find myself following my two indoor cats around with my Canon, waiting to capture that perfect moment. Getting hands-on practice with a National Geographic professional would be so inspirational. Once university is done, I'd like to pursue a career in the field of photography because I know there is so much more to learn.
