My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

My enthusiasm for adventure and love of photography inspired a solo, two week trip around Morocco this past winter.

Normally intrigued more by "the big picture" if you will rather than by individual portraits, I was struck by the intense depth of every face I photographed. The solemn emotions these images elicit are representative of the everyday public interactions, or lack there of, opposed to those in more familiar cultures where passers by give a smile or nod. This intensity, coupled with the wonderful saturation of color and remarkable light, creates a unique aesthetic that I am incredibly excited about.

I am a young, motivated, enthusiastic photographer. National Geographic combines my two greatest passions, photography and travel, like no other magazine can. This scholarship is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and one that I would approach with more vigor and commitment than any other candidate.
