Shellharbour

AUSTRALIA | Thursday, 12 February 2015 | Views [160]

Shellharbour was okay I guess, much better than Woolongong. The most memorable part was Bass Point reserve, though I missed the markets which was a shame. Lots of beaches, lots of people too, though it was no woolongong thank goodness. I then moved on to Kiama and bought some excelent jam. I vitisted the lighthouse and the blowhole as well, though I've seen that before so it wasn't a long stop. Camped overnight in Kiama, and gave the cooker a good workout with a fryup for dinner, which has left the van a little bit too aromatic for my liking. Currently got all the doors and windows open airing the whole thing out.

From here I'm headed to werri beach, where I've booked myself a spot at the caravan park on the advice of a fellow traveler. He was heading in the opposite direction to me, but he assured me there's a nice community of camper travelers always passing through there, and it's a great way to get to know other people making similar trips. Should be good, as it's been getting a bit lonely doing this all on my own. I'm very glad I opted for a van with a tiny flatscreen tv. I was againt the idea of bringing technology on this trip at first but you can get a bit tired of your own company after a while, especially once the sun goes down and there's not much to do.

That being said, I've started to really enjoy waking up in the camper each day, in a new location and surroundings each time. While I've certainly had to switch the air-con on straight away a few times (my goodness it gets hot early at the moment), it's a really refreshing feeling to wake up with the rising sun beaming through the curtains and taking a short early walk while the dew is still settling. I honestly can't think of a single time I willingly jumped out of bed to walk before frying up bacon and eggs (thankyou mini fridge) while at home, but that's becoming a daily ritual for me now, and it's a great way to start each day.

Anyway, I'm going to get behind the wheel again and see where the road takes me this afternoon. I might go see if I can find a nice bakery, I've got a craving for some pastry.

All the best,

Jane
