The cross in the map.

Marina del Este's lighthouse

SPAIN | Wednesday, 27 May 2015 | Views [109] | Scholarship Entry

Marina del Este is not only a gorgeous cove bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, it is about experiencing yourself free and relax. Grown around the marina with its numerous crafts and residential complexes, Marina del Este is an unknown beach half an hour from Granada. So, I have mixed feelings introducing this place to you, dear reader. On the one hand, my mind is wondering: ‘Why not talking about such a special cross in the map –as pirates used to do to mark the treasure?’ But, on the other hand, it frightens me: ‘Are you really going to reveal your secret haven?’ Well, schizophrenias apart, if someone would ever inquire me about where on Earth I would return once again, my answer, clearly, would be Marina del Este’s lighthouse. But if I were asked for reasonable justifications for pointing it instead of anywhere, I would remain quiet. It is incomprehensible unless you have been there. It appeals to your senses with no remedy, like siren songs. Perhaps, it could be a good idea covering ears but, same as with suggestive voices, the light from the lighthouse can’t be avoid and, when one realizes, its charm has wrap you up.
When you arrive to Marina del Este, your car bumps into the smart view of the lighthouse on the top of La Punta de la Mona, the name of the hill where it is located. Unfortunately, a communication antenna is raised beside –the grotesque of civilization breaking through in majestic nature. However, if you ignore this irritating inconvenient, the landscape is surpassing. Due to the urbanization, there’s not much problem to reach the lighthouse, you only have to continue on the road until you see the departure signal to get either the hermitage or the lighthouse way. In this spot, you have to leave the car because both accesses are by a path. I’d rather recommend you to go on foot the whole trip since most of the road runs between some flowery chalets, therefore vehicles don’t go fast and you can enjoy the walk too!
In this last step of the outing, you will traverse a tiny stretch of the hill to discover the stairs hidden behind wild vegetation. To be honest, I have to admit that they are not completely unseen, but for the first time I felt like a brave explorer –I keep on pretty fond memories! Once you reach the top, the ancient Moorish tower rises superb, guarding both Marina del Este and La Herradura, the nearest village, and their blue side by side. My advice? Extend your arms as much as you can and feel the immensity of being alive!
