Calaway Park

Today Kona and I spent the day with Dean and his family at an amusement park called Calaway Park. It was a great day with lots of rides to be had. The longest we had to line up for was about 15min. and that was for the most popular ride at the park. The average wait was about 2 min. Kona also rode, for the first time, on a roller coaster. All in all we had a great time.

Canmore Again

August 18th - 20th

I got back from my climb late Friday evening and ended up staying in Canmore for the night. Saturday morning I drove into Calgary to get a very excited Kona. We spent a few hours at Aunt Dani's and went straight back to Canmore for some personaly time.

Saturday night was just the two of us. Jens let us stay at his place while he was away camping. It was fun, we watched movies and got to bed pretty late. Sunday morning while Kona was doing her homework I did a little cleaning. Then we played street hockey, that too was a lot of fun. In the afternoon we went to Tim's to hang out. Kona had a great time visiting with his daughter Bronwyn. In the evening Jens came by and we had a BBQ.

August 13th-17th

This week Kona and I spent away from each other. It was the first time Kona has ever spent any real time away from her direct family.

Monday morning I left Kona in good hands - Isabelle. Her cousin and I worked out a deal for her to take care of Kona while I was away. Over the week Isabelle took Kona to the movies, the zoo, the park, shopping etc. etc. There is no way I would have been able to get away and climb if it weren't for her. Kona had a great time but seemed to get a little sad at bed time without me there. In the end though, she did super.A special thanks to Isabelle too

During this time I managed to climb a snowy and steep mountain called Assiniboine. It's nickname is "The Mattahorn of the Rockies". I travelled more than 60km and spent 16 straight hours climbing to make it from the hut I was staying in to the summit and back. I had a BLAST and met 4 really cool people.

The Weekend

The weekend of the 11th and 12th was spent recovering from Naramata. On Saturday Kona and I went to see the new Harry Potter movie at an iMax theatre and in 3D as well. The screen was HUGE and Kona would reach out to try and grab/touch the characters etc. in the movie. We had a good time.

On Sunday I spent the morning getting myself ready for the backcountry. In the evening Kona and I went to Aunt Dani's as Kona will spend the next 5 days there without me. She seems excited and a little worried about it at the same time.

Today we drove back to Calgary. Uncle Mark told stories to Kona in the car and she couldn't get enough of them.

We saw a big horn sheep on the way home too. All in all it was a much nicer drive (an hour faster as well) than the one out.

At The Beach: Day 5,6 & 7

Day 5

Today there was a Faire (Festival) in the Town of Naramata. After a lazy morning we all worked our way down and enjoyed the festivities. Kona hung out with her Grannie while I drove into town to get some shopping done. After the beach it was back to the house for another evening of good food and good company.

Day 6

Today was a lot of the same. Slow morning, early lunch and off to the beach for fun in the sun. Jonah and I snuck away to check out bike rental shops for the ride we were planning on day 7. Another good day.

Day 7

Today Jonah and I got out of the house early and headed into town to get ourselves some bikes to ride. Kona was a little sad that I would be gone for the whole day but soon forgot and had a good day swimming and playing with her cousins.

Mt. biking was fun. The last time either Jonah or I had been on a ride as such was when I was in Canada 4 years ago. It was a damn good time but I think we both wished we were in better shape. Jonah bit the dust too, luckily he didn't get hurt.

The last two days have been a little of everything: Relaxation, Stress, Fun, Sun, Food, Family and the Beach of course.

We Skyped Yuri and Noah and Kona was a little emotional. She is having a super time but when she thinks of home she does get a little 寂しい。

Nonetheless, being here is fun for the both of us.

Today was another good day. In the morning we went down to the lake, swam for a bit, and returned back to the house for lunch. The afternoon was even lazier, we played in the yard, said 'Hi' to a couple of local horses, went shopping, enjoyed a delicious dinner made by Emma and returned to the lake for an evening swim: Definitely the high point of the day.

Today was our first full day in Naramata. We woke up, hung out at the house in the morning, and hit the beach after lunch. All the kids had a super time swimming and playing in the sand. We spent about 3 hours swimming and playing and then returned back to the house for supper.

After supper we visited a small market in Naramata and went for a short walk to the town dock. It is a beautiful town. Then we took the kids to the playground and they ended up taking an evening dip in the lake. Chilly...

It was a pretty damn good day.

Today Grannie, Uncle Mark, Kona and I drove from Calgary to Naramata. To make a long story short, it was a very long day, 12 hours from door to door. Despite being in the car for so long Kona was a great little kid.

We stopped at a truck stop for lunch. The portions were big, the flavour was bad but it was a great lunch.

Tomorrow we drive to Naramata in the Okanagan and that means we need to prepare for the trip. The whole family is spending 10 days at a house near the beach in the Okanagan, a beautiful (warm) area of Canada.

Kona and I woke up, had a lazy morning at Tim's and drove back to Cagary together today. Uncle Mark decided to take the bus back Sunday night so it was just the two of us. We had a good trip: talking, looking at the scenery and driving. We went to MEC and she finally got her drink holder too. Lazy...but a good day.

Yahoo...Canadian Rockies here we come.

This weekend Kona, Uncle Mark and I spent time visiting with Jens, Lorna and the boys and Tim.

Saturday we drove out and spent time with Lorna at the house. That evening Jens, Tim, Kona and I had a BBQ at Tim's house, Mark stayed at Lorna's place and visited with Matt and everyone. Tim's wife and daughter were spending time at their Grandparents house so it was just the four of us. Nevertheless it was a good time...catching up on old times and enjoying each others company. Don't forget Jen's cooking too...MMMmmmnn....Yummmie.

Sunday we spent most of the day hanging out. That evening we drove to Banff and swam at the Cascade Pits with Lorna, the boys and Lorna's little brother and his family. It was a good time.

Private Club / Calgary Science Center

Today Kona and I met with Dean and his son Reed at their club for swimming and lunch at the poolside. Kona had a super time in the pool but I forgot to take my camera and couldn't get any pictures. After a few hours at the club in 30 degree weather (a little too much sun for me) and a delicious nacho and pasta lunch we headed for the Calgary Science Center ( http://www.calgaryscience.ca/ ). We spent a super fun 3 hours there and could have stayed longer but it closed early and we had to leave.

Today was spent taking it easy and getting some errands done. In the
afternoon Kona and her younger cousins filled up the little pool and
played in the front yard for a few hours. We ordered pizza, hung out
and were back at grannies by 8:45. Kona didn't fall asleep until 10:45.

Stanley Park

Yippe...Let's Play. Yesterday Dani, Isabelle, the kids and I all went to Stanley Park. The sun was out but it wasn't a hot day. I thought it might be a little cold to play in the river but it was surprisingly nice. The kids had a great time.

After almost being swept away by the current and witnessing Mom save the day by fishing up a lost hat in the knick of time, the playground seemed very appealing. The next hour or two was spent goofing around and chasing uncle Jeff.

All in all it was a good outing (in the end the kids got uncle Jeff too).

Now we get to sleep over at aunt Dani's...What a day...

Cranky

The last few days has taken it's toll on the little ones. When it was time for bed, Kona, Moses and Bronwyn all had something to complain about. A good night sleep is all they need...Nighty Nite
