I find innumerable stories to be told through a camera lens. I find the interplay between the self and the image fascinating. I don’t have any formal training in photography. While I did pursue journalism and chalked out my career in visual media – primarily television – I was always in the editorial work space rather than technical expertise. But seeing the world through the lens excited me. It made me feel connected and moreover curious how I capture it in as a finite image. I worked my way through my early stages of photography. Shaky, out of focus, immature – my attempts were not impressive. However, I kept at it. Over the course of time my images lost its stubbornness and gained fluidity. Photography magically invited me into spaces and moments and I felt it’s the most wonderful way of knowing subjects deeply and intimately. I see this scholarship as an opportunity to go on a ‘serious’ photography assignment. I love capturing faces, people, colour and the pulse of a particular place or moment. I want my pictures to have a resonance, longevity, compassion and creativity.
