The Darkness

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

I love photos, observing them, taking them and being in them. I studied photography GCSE at college. However, I haven't been able to pursue my passion for photography due to the lack of experience and qualifications.
In March this year, I tragically lost my best friend. She went missing one evening and after a week of searching, we discovered she had been murdered.
I will never get over this and will always remember her. I have taken the following photos with Sian in mind. The "place" is where we used to go in the summer, for walks, chats and watching the sunset.
Photo no. 1 - demonstrates the huge cloud of darkness that this year has been, the ridges of the hill represent the constant ups and downs of my grief, and the spells of moments when reality hits me. There is also a harsh haziness about this photograph that illustrates the disbelief that not only me, but also many people of my town felt & still feel.
Photo no. 2 - This photograph has been taken at the bottom of the hill beside the road where Sians body was found. It is somewhere I don't often visit and that was a reason for me to record it as a photo. The mosaic is handmade by myself especially for that spot and it will remain there. The aim of this work was to give the observer a clear vision of subject via the words.
