My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I'm Haukur, a 28 year old Icelander.

When I was 18 years old I decided to travel and see the world for a year. One year turned to five and I was still on the road. I had been to 4 continents, learned 2 new languages, developed passion for photography and had documented every inch of my adventures. It was dusty and hectic at times, but I loved every minute of it.

Now it's been 5 years since I unpacked that backpack and I've recently finished a masters degree in visual anthropology. I now have knowledge that I wish I had had during my travelling years. And I am more ready than ever to finally start the career that I have always dreamt of.

I believe that my background as a vandering vagabond, linguist and anthropologist gives me advantage to others. I enjoy talking to people and getting to know their reality, learn about their struggles and about things that make them happy. A photo camera is the perfect tool to capture these strong personal stories. Being mentored by a National Geographic photographer would certainly be fruitful and valuable experience and get me a step closer into the world of professional travel photography.
