My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Im Kevin, 23 from Ireland and ive been interested in photography since my teens but really took on board practicing it when i was 20. I am self taught in photography but do hold a certificate in Photography Studies. I do alot of digital and work very much on wide angles although film photography is a passion of mine, but money holds me back from praciticing it more.

The 5 images ive presented are a documentation from a much broader essay of my time in Werchter Belgium at the Rock Werchter festival. I went to the festival with my good friend Ian, it was both of ours first time attending a festival and our first time travelling together.
The Rock Werchter festival, in the town of Werchter just outside Leuven, Belgium, is a Rock festival and plays host to alot of different styles of rock music. It was a completely relaxing festival, in 40degree heat the time we spent was very chill, lying out on the grass most of the time just listening to music.

Although i hate talking about why i should be chosen, I suppose id hope one could see a story in my 5 images, just by looking at them. I think im very good at getting a story together, i practice photo essays alot, I love doing them and i think I can get my message across in my photography through short photo essays in my images.

Photos: Rock Werchter 2010

A trip to a festival in Werchter Belgium with my good friend Ian McDonald. Rock Werchter in Werchter Belgium is a few miles outside the town of Leuven where on our trip we visited prior to the festival.

This was our first time in Belgium and to one of these festivals.

I wasnt allowed to bring my camera into the festival because it "looked too professional" but on the last day i snuck it in by seperating the lens from the body and giving my friend Ian the lens to carry while i carried the body. I wasnt going to use the camera for any commercial use as in to take photos of bands or anything like that, i just wanted to document our time in the festival and took the chance on the last day to get a few snaps of the festival.

During the festival we experienced 40degree heat, one of the hottest recorded at the festival, with the brief passing of clouds and shade from trees to keep us cool, the festival was very relaxing, enjoying it by lying out on the grass and listening to the bands with a beer. Very relaxing weekend.

From Dublin to Brussels, a train to Leuven and a bus to Werchter I photographed our journey and the cities we visited.
