My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

I am an educator who enjoys traveling and photography. Having taught in rural areas I quickly learned that my kids were not getting exposure to the world around them. The world is such an amazing place i knew I could not take the kids to the places I traveled so in turn I brought the tails from the trails back to the kids with stories of cultures abroad. I did this through photography and stories. The five images I chose are from one of my more compelling trips. Haiti and Dominican Republic where I joined a medical team to work with people in the Bateyes. It was a remarkable experience that will stay with me for years and is the place a young child taught me one of the greatest lessons. It was how to take the blinders off and really see the world.
