The people of Mae Sot rubbish dump

Decided to travel and photograph around eight years ago. Then finally got myself an SLR and started to document what I saw. Over the last few years I have travelled to remote areas in Asia around Laos, Borneo and Sumatra - and photographed local tribes and communities.
Each journey continues to inspire me and my stories continue to inspire those around me.
After a few years of trying to take my photography and photo essays to another level, I feel this would be a great opportunity for me to gain experience from Jason and also add some structure to my work, helping me to be able to share my stories to a wider world. There are some fascinating stories out there to be told. And I love nothing more than sharing my experiences of them
A 'place' I have visited

An avid traveler and amateur photographer. And in a lucky position to be able to do both. After investing in a SLR five years ago, trying to further my photographic techniques. I decided to try and capture the cultures and people, of the places I visit. Influenced by the works of Sebastiao Salgado. I chose to leave my full time job and explore the world around me. Working as a freelance carpenter, and with a few sacrifices. I have managed to start living out my dream of travelling the world and seeing the wonder that it provides. With hard work and dedication - not forgetting the love of what I do. I have managed to get to the jungles of the Amazon, the Andes mountains and the rain forests of Borneo - just to name a few. I have recently decided to dedicate my life to this cause ( all self funded ), and try and follow the footsteps of my idol Sebastiao Salgado.
A hard working, laid back and happy person, who enjoys life and adventure. This would be a wonderful experience for me and a valuable learning opportunity on how to link the two together, and tell a story - and hopefully get a step closer on the ladder to being a travel photographer. My journey continues...

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Travel and photography are my main two hobbies. To be able to do both at the same time is something I really enjoy. Life for me is about memories, and I try to capture these memories the best I can with pictures. After a lot of hard work and sacrifices, I have managed to get myself an SLR and travel extensively, documenting each place as I go a long, hoping too, that it will have an effect on others and inspire them, like my late Fathers pictures inspired me. I was taught as a child that travelling was one of the best ways to educate yourself, and I'm hoping to pass that on with my own stories and pictures. Someday in the next year or so, I want to visit local schools and tell my story to children who have never had the chance to see the real world, and show them that with hard work and a belief... you can live your dreams. To win this would not just be a personal achievement - but one in which I could share with others and help them live their dreams. I am a tough and determined enthusiast who would be perfect for this trip, and a joy to work with. An amateur photographer, experienced traveller, and all round good guy. And last but not least... willing to learn.
