      <title>Photos: My Scholarship entry - The Colosseum</title>
<description>For the last few years I have been challenging borders, traveling the world, meeting its inhabitants. I have a passion for photography, but also for our planet. I no longer see countries or political divisions. I see one world. I see people, living through their traditions and customs in incredible or sometimes hostile natural environments. My mission is to share this with the world. Show the power and beauty of our planet's diversity.

I believe I should be chosen for this opportunity because I know I will be able to get wonderful results from it. With Jason Edwards' support and experience I will be able to go further and deeper into one of the most beautiful and essential parts of the world . I have traveled through the Andean Mountains and the Amazon Rain Forest before and know that this opportunity would allow me to learn from the best and get much closer to the wildlife, biodiversity and communities in the area before it is too late. Hopefully, if enough photographers, documentary makers, and publications continue to raise awareness, wonder and inspire people with their work we will be able to slow down the destruction of the area.</description>

      <title>Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited</title>
<description>For the last 15 years I have been seeking to understand the world, culture, people. What I have learned is that life and culture can never be summarized in a few words. Something hides beneath the surface. This is what my photography aims to convey.

Culture can not be defined simply by listing traditions and customs. But as a silent medium photography can introduce us to characters, attitudes, settings, atmospheres and provide us with a moment to reflect on our human condition.

I cannot know all the innumerable lessons I would learn from Jason since I believe true learning is only possible through direct experience. I admire his patience and insight on his surroundings. However, I do know that this would be an incredible experience for growth as a person and a professional.

I hope to be chosen because I have a mission, because I am motivated, determined and believe in my work. My contribution and mission are to inspire empathy, curiosity and pride in human diversity. I cannot tell what the future holds but I do know that I will never stop learning from the masters and from those around me. I will never stop searching or fighting to show the beauty of this planet's diversity.

      <title>My Photo scholarship 2011 entry</title>
<description>I am a photographer. I have always been and will forever be. Since a child, I have been traveling the world. This has led me to an unique appreciation of different cultures and their way of life. I am profoundly interested in showing our modern societies the cultural diversity of our planet. My goal is to help preserve these cultures through my images, not only by making a record of their existence but also creating awareness and opening the mind of those who believe their lifestyle, is the only possible and correct way of life. I believe this objective as a future professional photographer is the reason why I should be chosen. Allow me the opportunity to learn from the best as to improve my work and make the best contribution possible.

These images show the “Fiesta Nacional de la Pachamama” in San Antonio de los Cobres in the province of Jujuy, Argentina. Pachamama, the Andean mother earth, is celebrated in a month long festival that sees bucket sized wells dug in the ground outside each mud house and public building, representing the mouths of the earth.

This old mining town in a valley located at an altitude of 4,500 m, has been forgotten. It is a piece of earth with harsh and inhospitable geographical conditions. Life there, in what from cities seems such barren extremes, is one of cold confinement to a landscape of different shades of browns. Yet, people’s gratefulness for their existence, the limited things the earth provides as well as their communal spirit comes through so clearly in the festivities in name of the Pachamama.

It is a strange reminder to the visitors that people living in one of the most inhospitable parts of the earth, are also among most grateful for the earth’s generosity.
