My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

This is my visit to Yala safari park in Sri Lanka, one of the best for leopard sighting. These photographs show what a wide range of animals you can see in a single visit. This is a dry zone park bordering the Indian Ocean & scenery are absolutely stunning, especially at dusk & dawn. If it is ones lucky day you can see many animal life & scenery in a single day.
I’m a maxillofacial Surgeon in Sri Lanka & I started my photography as a university student & wanted to capture the beauty of the nature that surrounded me. I captured anything that amazed me ranging from birds, scenery to miniature world. Soon after graduation I started traveling to most of the scenic parts, wild life parks & forest nature reserves in my country. This involved lot of traveling & camping in most diverse wild life parks for days & trekking in nature reserves in search of miniature unseen world. I have not followed any course in photography but learnt a lot by reading articles written by professionals in books & magazines in photography such as Amateur photography & Practical photography, digital photographer. I’m now a member of the Institute of Sri Lankan Photographers & have the opportunity to learn from monthly meeting conducted by professionals. I have won four 1st places, Three 2nd places & three 3rd places in national & international wildlife & nature competitions held in Sri Lanka.
Since I love traveling & experienced many different cultures & communities in Sri Lanka, I feel I need to learn more about travel photography & improve further because I have concentrated more on wildlife & nature. So If I were selected for this scholarship I’m sure I would be able to contribute more to photography.
