Football match Government Secondary School, Besham

Born and raised in urban culture of Pakistan I always found it difficult to find my roots. The complex visual diversity of cultures from city to city around the world in general and Pakistan in specific surrounding me forced me to explore the off road nearby places. Being a business and arts student in a country with employment issues forces one to spend smart, and contain your finances, so I grabbed every opportunity to travel I could get my hands on. I tagged along with friends who were going to other cities for jobs, weddings, projects, assignments or funerals. My favorites among these travels are the ones I took with local buses and trains.

From my last 3 years studying Multimedia arts, I have learnt to keep it simple, clean and sharp. I try to make my stories concise yet appealing to eye and digestible to mind.

My bengal tiger spirit wishes me to travel to Amazon and experience its energy. An opportunity like this will open a whole new dimension of creativity and storytelling for me. I think my ability to grasp fast and willingness to learn will make me an ideal student. I would love Jason to be my mentor, helping me in purifying and strengthening my words and visuals.

Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Every moment in time which will never be replicated in life is worth saving.

Being a son of a travel lover I experienced the excitement of exploration at very early age. The grandeur of every moment is huge when you find the originality of it. Keeping this in mind, wherever I went, I opened my eye of first time explorer and ended up finding more beautiful things in it.

This year during my multimedia art studies I decided that I want to start a career in wildlife and travel photography. So I packed my rucksack and took the next train to an unknown station. In 2 months I reached Karachi visiting around 10 cities, exploring and saving them in my photographs. After travelling through whole country I realized that my thirst to explore doesn't end but is more quenching as I continue to travel.

When I started researching about the field I came to know that while living in Pakistan it is impossible to find a career in this field due to lack of opportunities. When I found out about this scholarship it gave me hope that I might get a head start somewhere. This opportunity has kept me motivated to keep trying and maybe my passion can turn into experience someday.

Regards,
Farooq J. Mian
