My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I’ve always had the creative mind. From a young age and enrolled in dance, I thought there was always something beautiful about forming a piece that could reflect themes or emotions that could contain a collection of misunderstood meanings. Growing up I dived into other artistic forms like painting, drawing, acting and film, learning for myself what these art forms can do for people. And from that, I know it’s something that I've always enjoyed and knew that this is area I wanted to make a career with.

After recently graduating with a double degree in Creative Writing and Screen and Sound (Film) I’m aching to try and build upon the skill base I’ve gained in the past four years.

The best advice I’ve ever leant it that practice makes progression, not perfection. Knowledge is such a powerful tool and I believe we only excel in our craft by sharing and communicating with each other. I’ve only just started out in photography and I know I’ve got a lot to learn in terms of techniques, composition and all that goes with the craft. But I am a keen learner and would love to have the opportunity to excel and hopefully one day, return the favor.

For the past 4 years I’ve been studying a bachelor of Media in Screen and Sound at Perth’s Murdoch University, while also engaging with outside local film productions, with experience in the sound department. The inspiration behind my submission was to use my hometown city as a backdrop, to convey what type of adventure I enjoy. I have an aching desire to travel after completing my study at the end of this year and to be able to document my experiences and further my knowledge by winning this scholarship, would be a valuable advantage to grow as a filmmaker.
