Photos: Blooming Hill Tribe Gardens

Hill Tribe people are nomadic group living in Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. Originally they are supposed to come from South of China, however their history is as foggy and mystic as the hills they live in. Some tribes don't even keep a written history, just pass the names of up to 50 generations of ancestors by mouth.

Hill Tribe people did not really change the way they live in last thousand years. They are still very skilled in agriculture and various handcrafts.

Also, one of the main earnings still comes from sales of drugs such as opium, marihuana and magic mushrooms, which can grow so easily high in the mountains...

About me and why should I be the one who gets the scholarship:

Last year I've decided to quit my corporate job in London, leave the comforts of computer desk and free coffee in the office behind, and since October 2012 I started a solo travel around the world.

Throughout my whole childhood I was told that you can never make a living out of art. That is why I got degree in Finance, Banking and Investment, and later on became successful IT headhunter.
I decided that Now is the time to question everything I was told, go out, travel, learn and find out my own truth.

For me, Travel Photography has the perfect combination of internal and external motivation - I enjoy it greatly and also, I want to show to other people who spend most of their life at home, that maybe the world is not the way the evening news broadcast it.

I know Travel Photography is the dream job for most, however, I am also aware of all the challenges that come with it- from early waking up to catch that perfect sunrise to carrying heavy kit up that big mountain.

Regardless of the outcome of this competition, I am going to keep on taking beautiful pictures every day. However, this scholarship really can be the push I need, on my path to become a professional.

My Video scholarship 2010 entry

My inspiration? People that I talk to, posters in tube, artists on the street, cities that I live in.

In last year my life rapidly changed and that is why I wanted to share these feelings with everybody.

I started to make footage for my movie before I knew about this competition. I am fascinated by capturing the world through my eyes. In this case it is Israel, Barcelona and London.

Throughout the whole experience I was having all sorts of challenges. From not having enough battery in my camera in desert, to snow under palm trees, very limited access to software for editing movies(just when you need it:). Sometimes it seemed to me like destiny is testing me and putting all sorts of obstacles in order to stop me from applying. Destiny - I did it!:)

As a document maker I want to share the unique moments and capture knowledge and wisdom that is out there. Although visual arts are love of my life for ages, I am quite new to movie making. My learning curve is very steep and that is why I see intense couple of days of mentoring as the best experience I can get.
