For me, it goes beyond picture taking, it involves a deep connection with an open heart to be able to feel the people I meet and the things I experience. I grew up in Colombia and when I was 17 I decided to move to New York by myself. I didn't speak the language and I couldn't express what I was feeling. That’s when I started photographing and since then I knew I wanted to become a photographer. It allowed me to stop and pay attention to the world, to learn and to listen to the stories that people carry within them. I strongly believe those stories are the bridge that will connect us all. I admire photographers who can translate stories honestly and create an emotional connection. I want to work really hard to be one of those photographers. The opportunity of this scholarship with Jason Edwards would help me immensely in the path of becoming a visual storyteller. I am eager to learn, to keep training my eye, and acquiring new skills.
