luck of the irish.

may the road rise to meet you...

IRELAND

so, the flight from new york to philadelpia to dublin was terrible.
customs patted us down and searched our bags thoroughly. it was a random extended search. so we almost missed our flight.
then the plane food almost made me throw up.
and there were no t.v's.
so jetlagged in dublin. slept all day.
we picked up the car in dublin and started out on the road.
soon enough we came across some wild reindeer. they were gorgeous and very tame.
we drove through the beautiful countryside and then arrived at the little town of GORT. that was after seeing galway bay and a few castles.
the next day we spent the morning at coole house, where yeats the poet used to hang. the estate was just beautiful. by a lake, a gorgeous garden. then we went to yeats' tower, his cute little house, which is actually a tower. after that was the massive behemoth CLIFFS OF MOHER. sounds threatening, no?
blarney that night, the cutest little town.
and the day after we all kissed the blarney stone, which is supposed to give you eloquence.
after the stone, we started driving and passed by cork to finally arrive at youghal [pronounced yerl]. a sleepy little seaside town. it was gorgeous.
we had fish and chips.
that arvo we went to waterford crystal and caught the last tour through the crystal factory. it was amazing. and pretty.
okay, after that we made our way up to acklow and spent the night.
the next day we caught the ferry from dun laoghaire [pronounced dun leary] to holyhead, wales.
the drive through wales was so beautiful, the most beautiful.
castles carved out cliffs & seaside prettyness.
especially lludlando.
but we kept driving and finally got to alderly edge.
next blog.

nyc.

times square can't shine as bright as you

i swear it's true

so, the first day we arrived at nyc, caught my first yellow cab.
twas scary, but i survived.
we then went to macy's.
omg.
biggest shopping centre ever. ever ever.
like, 10 floors of beautiful clothing.
our hotel was like wow awesome. you'll have to see a photo to know.

the next day we attempted to tour around the city. in a bus.
but then it started raining/snowing.
and silly darcy decided to wear her converse that day, which got soaked through in about 10 minutes.
so we bailed. after the perilous walk through central park.
i couldn't feel my toes. but i saw a SQUIRREL! my first squirrel. twas exciting.
but because my feet were numb, we decided to go into the museum of natural history, which was fantastic.
we came out at night and it was still snowing. so we caught the subway {exciting. scary.}
back to times square.
at that time we continued the city tour at night.
got to grand central station {which is actually supposed to be called grand central TERMINAL. idk why} and then bailed again.
to go back to the toasty hotel.

the next day we went to ground zero. tear.
then on a cruise around the islands.
first was liberty island, statue of liberty is so green. and pretty.
then ellis island. morose.
i saw another squirrel after that. at battery park.
But THEN! that afternoon, we got tickets to HAIRSPRAY on broadway!
that was amazing. i loved it so much.

and then it was on to ireland. yeeha.

viva las vegas

sparkle baby shine!

...corner of Fourth of Fremont Street . appealing only 'cause e they are just that un-appealing...

SO! we're in vegas, babyyyy!!
and it is the most shiny place i have ever seen.
it's dirty and all the back streets are full of strip clubs and naked cabarets, but it's still so... light
definitely going back there one day. yayy.
so, the first day we flew in from l.a and the airport is so close to the vegas strip you wouldn't believe it...
that night we went to a dinner show. it was at excalibur and it was called the tournament of kings. it was all medievaish, so we had to eat a whole chicken with our fingers. yeh, ew.
but it was still funnn.
the next day we went to the grand canyon.
GOD it was INCREDIBLE.
the best experience of my life.
wow.
you just have to see it to believe it really.
it's hard to explain.
so. the next day we chilled and explored vegas.
we took a helicopter ride over the strip, which was awesome. incredible.
went to the sickeningly terrible buffets.
went to the corner of fourth and fremont streets...

}} it's these substandard motels on the (lalalalala) corner of 4th and Fremont Street.
appealing only because they are just that un-appealing
any practiced catholic would cross themselves upon entering.
the rooms have a hint of asbestos and maybe just a dash of formaldehyde,
and the habit of decomposing right before your very (lalalala) eyes.

along with the people inside
what a wonderful caricature of intimacy

and that was practically vegas.
on to toronto!

HOLLYWOOD - - -

hollywood hills & suburban thrills

stockpiling memories in the corner of the room

so hollywood is a the most wonderful facade i have ever seen.
on tv it is so glamorous, like the streets may very well be paved with silver.
in real life, the tackiness of it is surprising and kind of saddening i guess.
despite how seedy it really is, though, it has this tawdry appeal that i like.
we visited the wax museum first, after the shuttle from anaheim.
and now we're in the holiday inn in hollywood.
haven't really spotted any celebrities yet, but who would know if we did, right?
i mean, they try to be so stealthy nowadays.
but i did see a couple of star homes.
it's a little bit of a let down, but i can't help liking it.
today is universal studios. and tomorrow is vegas.
