Unforgetable Battambang

As I promised in my previous post, I am determined to take you right to the end of my trip. So lets go back to sunny Cambodia! Sounds like a good idea since the weather back home has forgotten to tune back into spring mode...


Just imagine that it is early in the morning and that you are just about to board a small boat down the Mekong river. The 9 hour journey will take you through an aray of floating villages. You will get that close to people that you will be able to get a sense of what it is like to live on the mekong river. Friendly people greet you all the way and children run along the shore shouting and laughing! A little girl performs a crazy hoola loop show just for you... Those famous wide cambodian smiles are out there again! You become a spectator of life on the Mekong River. How does it feel?

Yes indeed it was great and the boat trip was a highlight of my stay in Cambodia. It was long because during the dry season the river is a lot shallower. Our boat got stuck at one point and we actually all got out and pushed. We obviously cheered when it started moving! In the rainy season the same trip can be cut down to 3 hours. But honestly as an other passenger put it: "I really loved the 8 first hours!". By the end of the ninth hour we were all glad to reach Battambang...
