Photos: My Scholarship entry - The Wild Lands of South West Tasmania

My Passion is for the natural environment and diversity of human culture. I love to learn and communicate from a point of understanding, so i study Botany, Zoology, Geography & any field i can sink my mind into. I love photography as it gives me the ability to share my experience of the world, it allows me to highlight and communicate the stories i feel need telling.

My goal in life is to use the photography to bridge the gap between scientific researcher & the stakeholders who influence the environment, I aspire to join the ranks of the ILCP, & work alongside the visionaries at National Geographic.
I will combine my passions of understanding life on this planet and photography. I aim to live a fulfilling life, where telling the stories that need to be told, sustains both my insatiable appetite for learning & exploration, & my will to look after this world & inspire people to care for the planet.

this opportunity will provide me with the invaluable experience of absorbing Jason’s considerable expertise in these fields, practice & guidance at the necessary processes to achieve these goals and provide me with the opportunity to get my foot in the door at NG society

Photos: My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

I am writing this from above the canopy of the upper florentine in Tasmania's remote southern forests. i am laying back where i awoke, 50 meters above the forest floor perched in a 'tree sit' having just captured the forest in pre-dawn light from among the emergent tree tops, unfortunately sunrise had no colour or clouds. i am here for this assignment, photographing this ancient forest i love and telling the story of its threatened existence. i only have one shot to get this right, discovering the scholarship late and uni exams left me only a four day window. the pressure is on.

Passion, progression, vision and growth.
My current biggest passions in life are photography, culture, the natural environment and their conservation. Through photography I learn, grow, document and make a difference by sharing how I see the world and what i see in it.

my teachers are the best there are; everyone and everything adds to my experience and knowledge. I don’t see it as trial and error. more trial and meticulous deconstruction, then evaluation of where and how to improve. i pick peoples brains; asking questions and combing second hand book shops for photography treasures; like books by martin hawes, galen rowell and ansel adams. i vacuum up all the photography, travel, environment and conservation related material i can afford. I thrive through the generosity of others with knowledge and camera gear.
not just look but see.

To create vision and evocative emotive masterpieces with strong messages through photos is my aim. to use this to experience different cultures and environments is my biggest desire. to protect them from degradation and destruction my goal.

i have learnt a lot by going through the processes for this application, thankyou for the oppourtunity
