My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Worldwide | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos
Dear Jason,
I chose to submit my photos taken at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and The Killing Fields here in Cambodia. After looking at the victim's faces, I couldn't help but wonder about their own personal stories and also about the power of a photograph.
If a moment in time, a person, a place is not recorded/documented in some way, how do we learn, does it still exist? Why did Pol Pot want photos of his prisoners if they were all to die anyway. Who took the photos? Was he or she a Photographer? a Soldier?
I love photography because it gives you the opportunity to tell a story, to express emotions and feelings that words can't and also the ability to spark other peoples interest or quest for knowledge.
I think I would be the best candidate for this scholarship because I am dedicated, curious about the world- especially the isolated and spiritual landscape of Bhutan and I want to become a real photographer. I never leave my house without my camera, but as of yet have no formal training. I'm excited and eager to learn and know it would be the opportunity of a lifetime.
Sincerely,
Daisy Walsh
